Another positive dealer experience

Post by MJim » Thu Dec 20, 2012 11:47 pm

Just collected car from BMW Battersea - servicing arm of BMW Park Lane.  Car was in to have front active cruise control sensor realigned + new bracket (some kind person presumably reversed into it so it had stopped working), rear bumper properly reattached (same issue at the rear - problem with parking on the streets), plus glove compartment top lid fixed (stopped springing up).  Latter two were covered by warranty and active cruise repair came in at 60% of estimate.  Chuffed.  :)

Always good to hear the positives, forums often get a bad name for only going on about the negitive issues.

The problem I had was that on the flat horizontal surface on the top of the rear bumper, it was slightly raised in the centre, but in such a fashion that I had thought it was a design feature.  Only when the dealer pointed it out to me and I then looked at other X5s did I realise that it wasn't.  It didn't catch, so if they'd wanted to charge I would probably have left it.  We agreed that it was likely caused by someone shunting the car given parked on street so I didn't expect warranty to cover it, unless they are effectively admitting that its a design flaw and should survive such knocks.

Slight gripe is that on further examination of their handywork at the front I see that one of the front fogs and surround have been v badly fitted leaving large gaps.  So yet another schlepp over to the dealer will be required - right PITA!  They bang on about their highly skilled and trained technicians (hence c£200 per hour charge out rate) along with £50k technical ramp to get the cruise control radar alignment spot on, and then leave such shoddy gaps when putting the front back together ...  >:(

i had the same kinda thing on mine and the first time they sorted it under warranty but the second time they said the bumper had been hit and so wouldnt cover it.......there is loads of stuff on xoutpost about the rear bumpers......they dont seem to have to have much of a knock to break the clips that hold it down.  :(

sorry to hear about your shoddy workmanship though......always a pain going backwards and forwards to there

Sorry to hear that - did you just leave it 2nd time round?  Given the likelihood of it happening again I think I'd be inclined to given the BMW charge out rates ...

Ouch! I presume they wanted to replace the whole bumper?
