transit mpg
Anyone know what sort of mpg the swb 2.0td transit does against the 2.4td lwb transit van, around 03 reg? Thinking of adding to the fleet and setting up self employed whilst still working, even though I've managed before from an astra van I'm thinking a lwb transit as I've no garage and I'm thinking of a large project as well and it would enable me to keep all my gear in one place. There also one of the cheapest to insure at £500 per year for business use with no no claims

Re: transit mpg
Thinking back to my Fleet Manager days, low twenties empty and below 10 laden. Ours were the LWB version, but we're only talking the difference between a 2.4T capacity and a 3.5T capacity. Used as mobile labs they were laden most of the time.
We switched to Sprinters in about 2001 and the Trannie's & LDV Vans (dreadful!!) were phased out. The Sprinter was a much better all-round vehicle.

Re: transit mpg
hmm i know the old ones are bad, where i used to work we had 15 from h reg to 06 reg (boss kept until death) problem was the last one i had was a 2000 old shape then i got switched to a vw caddy so never found out how bad the newer ones were, its just an idea ive been having as i didnt get the new job i wanted at the mine so am thinking of working/self empolyed and van on business policy is only £500 a year with 0 ncb so ca still keep all my cars, i can also pick up an 03 for around £2000 and have all tools etc just there stored all over in different places so need a mobile garage!

Re: transit mpg
woohoo my second favourite topic after the x5.......actually third favourite topic after the x5 and alcohol.....actually the fourth after......
anyway i dont know so much about the mk6 as ive only had mk7's but i do like my transits.
Firstly i cant remember where you live but bear in mind that if you want to drive within the m25 area you will need to have a euro4 van.
If your going to keep stuff in it then you will need to have it alarmed and deadlocks fitted.
As for mpg i dont know what the mk6's were like but my old lwb hr 140 was getting around 30mpg empty down to 24 being fully loaded and sitting at 90+ on foreign motorways.......
The new 155 is not looking great at the moment but has only done 3000 miles.
If you want a pokey engine they did a 3.2l 5cylinder 200bhp in the mk7
Otherwise have a look at www.fordtransit.org loads of info there

Re: transit mpg
it might not happen yet but i need to get out of my current job so im thinking new year new start, london is 280 miles away so lez etc doesnt matter also be secure ish where i am, a was looking at eith a swb medium roof or lwb medium roof, i noticed the swb is a 2.0 and the lwb a 2.4, thing is the only ultra eco vans are just too small and i also need 3 seats at least and hate the citroen/peugeot, my mates have had nothing but trouble with the vivaro type and i also no at xwork some of the old ones had nearly 400k on and went strong still, the one i had, had 280k on so reliable ish for an old bus

Re: transit mpg
No idea, but our Renault Master seems to be averaging 30mpg fully loaded and never been able to get near that in any transits that we've hired.

You're it wrong there, the Master has the worst diving position of any 3.5T vehicle I know!

Re: transit mpg
The transit is the most comfortable of the vans ive driven.......but recently am only limited to the trannie, sprinter and iveco daily
transit mpg
I have a 57 plate Renault master LWB with 177k on the clock, runs and pulls like a train always has all of my kit on it, tower scaffold, ladders and tools and still returns me 30 to the gallon !
Much better van than a transhit too!!

Re: transit mpg
I sue to drive a 100/ 280T semi high top FWD and this would easily do over 30 mpg even at speed.
The RWDs are way down on MPG, if you want good economy and speed go for a FWD even the 100BHP could go faster than any thing else in the 3rd lane
