Brake wear sensor-the metal clip?

On investigating something else on the wifes car I noticed that the front wear connector was......disconnected

Shady tricks me thinks as the warning light isn't on but the pad end is shredded...or missing. Not sure who did it but the cable it tied up so it was deliberate. Anyways the pads are fine and she'll no doubt do minimal miles before the warm weather returns and I can be arsed to pull the wheel

So....having done the disks and pads on mine I distinctly recall there was a metal horseshoe clip around the sensor to allow it to hold into the pad. With a shredded sensor and needing a new one did I dream this metal clip up, or does it come with a new sensor? I know it' doesn't come with the pads

Surely some of you have changed your sensor cable for a new one? Did it come with the metal clip?

No clip showing on RealOEM for the BMW offered front or rear service kits, and no part number for a separate item. Can only think if there is one then it's on the cable. Mine were changed by the Dealer so can't help any further.

I never had to change the brakes on the X5 but on E36,E34,E38 and E39s that i changed brakes and sensors on i DID see the retainer metal clip to hold it in place. I would assume it would be the same design.

Not touched the previous BMWs I've had but when I pulled my front pads the sensor was OK hence not needing to buy another clip. The plastic wear bit was inact and I swear it had a metal horseshoe clip.

..are Ebay ones any good?

Mind you...with a 30% discount (over 20£) on PAGID30 comes to £38.18 for the set of pads+sensor (sensor works out at £9.20

there is a tiny metal clip 100% but does it not come on the new wear sensor as they need replacing once the light has come on, the last ones i bought were only around £6

I guess if you do trash the sensor then that goes too. I your replacement didn't have one what did you do...or was yours still intact :noexpression:

Yes, the horse shoe clip is separate. I normally put it on the sensor first then slide the whole thing in the hole.

The wearing does not damage that clip though, the light will be on first.

I think that's what I did on mine.....but on the wife's car the cable is shredded, the end is completly missing. No idea why a warning isn't showing unless it was cancelled. It's just coilled up ot of the way....idiots

anways....I shall orde a new one and hope the clip comes with it....either that or it's blu tac

The principle is about closed circuit, so if they have the wires not connected - the light will not come on.

All the sensor does is if the material wears away, the two wires connect and therefore the circuit is complete.
