Gotta say they look awful!

Sod winter wheels/tyres this is England where the temperature rarely falls low enough to warrant looking like a twat!

I really hope that comment doesn't come back to bite you on the arse!  >:D.

So do I - I turned down spending £2.5k on winters on the porsche because I said it was only a couple of days a year!!

Fitted my winters as well this week. Hard to tell if they are really needed yet but getting stuck or having a skid on ice would be mega annoying  if my winters were still sitting in the garage! They don't look too bad as they are 19", sit a little in at the back but don't really want the expense of spacers and the difficulties of getting them off again if they weld to the hub.

Heavy old work changing the wheels on an X5, mine has the 20s and they are not light!

What pressures is everyone running for winters, I have Vredestein 255x50x19 front and 285x45x19 rear.

I put 2.0 bar in front, 2.2 at rear for my Vredestein.

I originally went 2.2 bar all round but had it at my tyre shop yesterday as I wasn't able to get the bolts on one of the wheels shifted. Asked them to check the pressures and when checked last night they had gone over 2.5 bar all round.

So is softer or harder better - no rude replies please :-)

I got my values from the reading inside the door, just looked at the tyre sizes and selected the corresponding values.

It also depends upon the ambient air temp and that of the pressurised supply.  If the tyres were checked 'warm' then the pressure will be measuring wrong.  If their air tank is cold then once the air from it warms up, the pressure will rise too.

I was using the sticker on the door too for pressures but was using the lighter load setting as the most that is ever in the car is 2 adults and 2 small kids with no luggage.

Just returned home on return leg of round trip on 17" winters  - fairly empty roads pressing on a bit.  Just a word of warning to folk switching to winters and deeper sidewalls... Be mindful winter tyres will cope better with cold temps but when pressing on there may be more roll through bends, slight vagueness in steering & even some traction loss if tyres get warmer, (due say to progressive road speeds &/or outside temp increase).
