My LPG'd X5 3.0i Sport
My LPG'd X5 3.0i Sport
Here's a few pics of my first X5. This is my 85th car(like to chop and change) and my first 4x4. Got it ridiculously cheap as it came with a few small niggles but I enjoy tinkering about in the garage so am slowly fixing them. Really loving it so far, and very easy to run on the LPG.
Reason for buying it was the other half has a 1 series coupe, but she's a wind farm developer and frequently has to drive up access routes to the top of hills and her car just doesn't go there. Plus I always fancied an X5 secretly.
Plans are:
Complete coolant overhaul - Water pump, thermostat, expansion tank, all new pipes
Service it
Drivers door handle carrier
Needs a rear suspension height sensor
One front and one rear parking sensor to be replaced
Repair the pixel display in the dash clocks and MID
Update front and rear lights
Black kidney grilles
20" wheels
Possibly change the wood trim for aluminium or gloss black if I can find a set cheap enough
Already have all the coolant and most of the service parts, just waiting for the oil to turn up and I can make a start. And also waiting for some spacers and the new wheels should be good to go on also.

Looks like you've already tried out the 4x4 ability of you car. Nice locations for the pics. The new wheels look really nice. Looking forward to seeing the pics once on.

Just seen the information board by your car. A good guess then!

Certainly was Fermanagh, good spot! We'd already planned the weekend away, just got lucky that I was picking the X5 up the same day so thought we'd take it down for a spin. Brilliant scenery and took it round the forest park pictured above, though didn't venture too far off road as I'm very aware it isn't a Landrover lol. Her Dad has a farm so will be taking it through the fields there shortly to see how it gets on!

Any chance of pics of the LPG conversion setup.

Will take some tomorrow for you, but its not pretty! Just a big tank that takes up a lot of boot space, but I'm looking into getting it moved to the spare wheel well.
Few wee updates in the past few weeks. Fitted some new kidney grilles, fitted some LED rear lights, did a full service, did a full cooling system overhaul and am in the middle of repairing the display on the MID. Still loving it, and worked out I'm getting equivalent to 38mpg on LPG which makes me happy!
New parts
And everything fitted

38 mpg is a massive increase what driving style is this based on, 70% of my driving is on motorways all be it only to work 13 miles one way. But am getting 19 avg mpg, avg speed is only 26-30mph though.

I maybe wrong but I think you will find Gav is taking the price difference between LPG and petrol into account and then working out the fuel consumption. Still a very impressive mpg figure.

Re: My LPG'd X5 3.0i Sport
Yep, that's taking the price difference into account. To put it another way, £49 fills the gas tank and I'm getting just under 300 miles to a tank doing a 48 mile round trip to Belfast everyday all on motorways doing about 50/60mph.
Had never really considered gas before, but I'm converted now. Already looking at an LPG'd 745i for next year

what are the wheels? e70?
Re: My LPG'd X5 3.0i Sport
Style 215, 21". Available for E70/71 as you surmised.
Never anthropomorphise computers. They hate that.
Re: My LPG'd X5 3.0i Sport
Very nearly correct ^^^^
Actually 20" replicas. They were so cheap I couldn't say no, especially considering the tread and make of all the tyres. But yes they were fitted to an E70. Nothing a set of spigot rings didn't sort out
