HID kit

Or you can buy a headlight assembly with projector type lens in it and just swap it with a H7 kit directly.
You will have a great deal of glare from not having the projector. Unless you bought the H7 for reflector type headlight.

Hi, I have been working on my lights this weekend and can confirm the prefacelift has a plastic retaining ring with no metal clips, its a push and turn bayonet type fitting,

cheers crofter

have taken a photo of the new HID and old bulb.  The hid is in my hand in the pic.  its a lot bigger and will not fit where the old bulb was.

The halogen bulb you have is H1 not H7
This is what a halogen H7 look like

Here is the halogen comparison

Here is all 4 together

At the end eventhough i haven't seen H1 set up for X5 for dipped beam, looks like you have the wrong bulb kit or you pulled the main beam bulb by mistake

As above, that is a H1 and I'm pretty sure the dipped beam has always been H7. H1 I think is fog light.

HID kit

i think the fog light was H3. i've changed the fogs on my friend's diesel prefacelift and that's what he had in there. i ordered the H3s for mine trusting that. if it is mot H3 on mine i have a few H1 kits sitting in my garage that i can use.

on the other note i hope you get the mix up sorted out.
hope we gave you decent amount if guidance

Looks like you've removed the inner (high beam) light bulb and not the outer (low/dipped beam) one.

Well you have all certainly been helpful than I could have imagined.
Thank you all.  I have just checked the box an I have been supplied with a H7 kit.  I will phone HID direct ASAP as when I ordered I specified on my order that the kit is for a 2001 X5.  I was unsure of which kit to purchase and someone from hid direct sent me a link to this particular kit.

Thanks again all

Can you confirm was it the outer or inner bulb you removed from the headlight? As H7 is the outer low dipped beam.
