Well 6 weeks into ownership and my car is currently sitting in a cold garage with a suspected gearbox fault. Started making what I can only describe as a grinding noise as I pulled away and within 1/2 mile was constantly making a noise.

Only done about 400 miles since I bought the car and not noticed anything until this noise. Car also went through an AA inspection and road test with no issues reported.

To say I'm gutted ATM would be an understatement. To top it all I'm getting married next Saturday and was planning on using the car for the wedding.

Hopefully covered as I bought from a dealer and also took out a policy with warranty direct. It just seems however careful you are things still go wrong

That is bad news. Like you say, with the dealer and warranty direct behind you, hopefully this issue will be resolved quickly.

Gutted would be my thoughts too..... :'(

Check there isn't a 'qualifying period' on your WD policy as some companies have a first 90-day claim lockout.

Mine went from fine to busted with no warning either. WD paid for all but the BMW Diagnostics (£60) and £50 policy excess. It was a 50p part in the torque converter which broke and I had a 'nasty grinding noise'

See if the Dealer will loan you a decent replacement as a wedding car..

Finally an update from garage and car is ready to pick up!!!!

Not sure on exact problem but a pin in the handbrake had come out but the vibration/noise were transferring to the handbrake assembly so it sounded like a gearbox issue.

Had a creaking rear ball joint sorted while it was in so all back the way it should be now.

Got my box of parts from BMW yesterday as well so can finally finish off my intravee install and replace the first aid kit that had been liberated.

Well I was never one to get things in the right order so after 15 years and 3 kids getting married was the least I could do

As for the wedding, etc, congrats.

For me, together 19 years, married 13 years, eldest 6.5 years old, youngest 4 years old. I'm Indian so had to do it the right way.
