UPGRADE SPEAKERS E53

hello folks
anyone fitted upgrade speakers? guess most have ,and where to buy also how many speakers are there ?looked on bavarian sound works and they say 10 , thanks all

Look in the rear door cards. Do you have one or two? Two equals an upgrade to 10 and one is 6.

Locations are:

2 in the rear door cards = 4
2 in the front door cards = 4 (up higher near the outside mirrors)
2 in the dash up high (base of the windscreen)

If not upgraded - 1 in each door card and the dash (each side) = 6

Upgrade the front door card one's with components and you'll see a arked difference! A sub will help no end too - not to hear you before you arrive but to fill out the full frequency range...

cheers sanj will check tom. have been offerd a sub (oem) but dont know where it goes or if plug and play. how the heck do you change the ones in dash looks a real pig

Dont change the ones in the dash.......just remove them. I changed the front doors to have low/mid in the bottom of the door and put tweeters behind grills by the door mirrors....sounds much better.

I have posted some pics on here already.

How are you getting on with the headunit upgrade BTW?

Could you not just disconnect them rather than removing? Might as well leave them where they are if they are not being replaced, even if they aren't connected!

I upgraded the speakers in my 4.8is
Components in the front and rear doors, sub in the rear and a new amp. All Rockford Fosgate.
Sounds a lot better than the factory system that was in it when i purchased it.

what model of speaker did you go for and where did you get them? Do you get deeper bass from this setup over the OEM setup?

Definitely get more bass than standard but without a sub its not going to be great. Its just a fuller richer sound

I remember seeing a Sub install in someones E53 (Sanj maybe?) on X5Drivers, has anyone got details of the install. After a small sub, say 8" to fill out the lack of bass in the OE BMW system, even with 10 speakers!

Want it completely stealth, but because of the LPG conversion it can't go in the right hand side of the boot as the compressor for the air suspension is now there, so thinking maybe the left cubby, as the CD changer will be out soon too.

I got an MTX mono amp (not sure which one) powering my Focal 8"................all i would say is make sure it has plenty of power.

I dont think you would get a sub in the left cubby hole as there is less room than the right even if you took the sat nav and cd player etc out you would still have the amp and bluetooth control module etc in the way!! and you need the space to get the volume for the sub in the box.Then there's the amp to house aswell.

My amp is a sony xm-1s and is located here with a little moding you will also note that it's not covered with towells

The Focal is VERY rare to find on eBay - cheapest is £135 but then you get a warranty with that.

My amp is a 2-channel bridgeable JBL (old one) but it has the strength to power the sub.

BUT mine sounds the best as I have the acoustic towels.
