4.8 on Pistonheads
Re: 4.8 on Pistonheads
Been having a good look around. I like the look of this:
http://www.pistonheads.com/sales/2047269.htm
The latest 4.4 I think I've seen! Colour combo right up my street. Fully loaded.
I must stop looking!!
Prices have really changed, even in the last 4 months. Sold my 3.0i in July for a good price, I now see BMW are not even bothering to sell 3.0 petrols under approved used anymore, they were a few months ago.
Thats an Exclusive Edition in Stratus Grey/Ercu Nappa Leather, lovely spec. P/X'd my '06' V8 back at the end of May and got £18k for it with over £1k of the e61 dealer had id up at £21.5 and sold it within 4 weeks.

Re: 4.8 on Pistonheads
Personally my money would be on this private sale 4.8is absent of comms, granted but £5k less - bag it for £13k on basis of absent comms, retro fit same & you'd still be around £5k up on the indy sale in 1st link for what is essentially the same car, a low owner total & a chance to better enquire into integrity of car & seller.
Love the colour (not that I'm biased of course ) but the interior on some of these Le Mans, like this one, is a bit gaudy to my liking and a bit of an acquired taste....making it harder to shift together with the lack of comms and other "extras" like the aux heating and other expesnive toys.....hence the rock-bottom price. I paid quite a lot more for mine with a stunning interior (black exclusive nappa leather / poplar trim) and a long list of extras incl the towbar I have needed a lot in recent weeks and the AUC Warranty......but am still happy with the decision. Mine was also low mileage (27K). Frustrating though the satnav and bluetooth can be at times, I'm really glad I didn't get one without it - in fact, didn't realise the 4.8is came without it.....

Hexagon had a few available on their site when I bought my 4.8is from them end July 2010.....still nice cars (I traded my very clean Toledo Blue 3.0i in for the 4.8!!)

And Hexagon still have 4-5 V8's, some of which are getting on for being in stock 1 year if not more

Re: 4.8 on Pistonheads
Their prices are quite high.....but I really wanted the Le Mans 4.8is I bought from them......it was my perfect spec, you only get to live life once and the car is covered with an AUC warranty They seem to have a huge churn of would-be buyers in their show rooms from all over the country - probably for the Z4Ms and the M3s rather than the X5s!!! None of the 4.8is they had at the time or since, stacked up to the same spec as mine, though. It was a heck of a lot cheaper than buying a new one, mind you, in fact probably cheaper than a new Mondeo!!!!! No contest!!!

Re: 4.8 on Pistonheads
Back to the OP, the suspension has definitely been put onto the Access setting on the Air Suspension. I have quite a few pictures with mine in the same stance... looks great when it is squat like that IMO. If I was going to advertise mine for sale, there are basics that I think so many people miss when they advertise their cars.
1) Good photos are essential i'd say. It has to tempt the person looking into calling about a viewing in the flesh. So many times I have seen pictures of dirty cars, rubbish angles or missing interior photo's.
2) Spend some time describing the car fully. I have also seen alot of ad's in my time where people just put the bare minimum and expect a sale... "2004 4.8is X5, Black, 41k, Tax & Test, £18k" - Hardly tempting is it.
When I was looking Hexagon had some lovely examples but wow they were overpriced. I waited a couple of weeks and one came up at BMW in Grimsby (not sure of the name), it was £18k so I got my local dealers (Batemans) to buy it for me - the one I looked at in Hexagon was the same but didn't have Rear Seat Heating, Rear Electric Seats and Rear AC... but was £25k!!!
Turks.

Re: 4.8 on Pistonheads
Turks, is the access setting useable in everyday scenario? Like, stop at the shops, drop down, 5 mins later out suspension pump up? Does it take long? My missus is small and had trouble getting in and out of the X. Might just be a selling point for future purchase!
Its funny isn't it how the right car 'just comes along' if you wait. There are so many over priced cars out there, when a correctly priced car with proper spec and history comes up, if flies off the shelf. I bought my 330 6 hours after the guy put the ad up. Drove 100 miles to see it at 10pm on a friday night as he had a string of viewings on the sat. First to see would have bought.. and that was me!!

Re: 4.8 on Pistonheads
Hi bwg,
The Access setting can be used anytime provided you are driving under a certain speed... i'm not sure what this is exactly but it is around 40-45kph so 25mph. You can definitely stop at the shops or whatever, drop the car (10 seconds if that), go and do your shopping, come back and drive off... it will automatically raise once you hit the speed mentioned above. Alternatively you could just press the button as soon as you get in to raise it back to normal height (again, 10 seconds if that)...
I use the adjustable suspension all the time, especially when I have the dogs in the car. It makes it easier for them to jump in and out of the boot if I drop it to access.
The adjustable suspension is something that came as standard on the 4.8is. It was an available option on other engines but it is rare to find one with it. If you are going to go for a 4.8, try and get one with extended warranty as this can be worth its weight in gold if you have suspension problems, pano roof problems etc. There is a thread somewhere recently about my suspension Air Bags needing replacement and the price is hefty if you have to foot the bill yourself.

Re: 4.8 on Pistonheads
I really like the idea of the adjustable suspension! But as you say, pricey if it goes wrong. Yes, I saw your post about that. Reminded me of my old VW days when it was customary to have your car 'dumped to the weeds' as they say. Never did it to mine, but I notice its still all the craze!
Thanks for the info mate. I think I may come back to the world of X with 4.8!
