a bit more stripping ohhh errrr

Post by westside » Sun Nov 25, 2012 7:17 pm

The rear end, this is actually quite easy lots of 8mm bolts and clips.  In order to remove the out bits of the rear diffuser your have to remove the rear wheel arch trim as there is one plastic rivit there.  Also the rivits are one use only so have a new set ready cheap as chips from BMW.  To remove the wheel arch trim your need a trim tool, once the rivits are out you cant reuse them.  Remember to remove the PDC etc from the rear trims

For the front bumper remove the 8mm bolts on the bottom and there are 2 on the inner arch.  Once theses are undone pull on the bumper and it can be removed.  remember to disconnect the fog lamps, side view camera PDC loom etc etc.  Please note remove the front reflector on the side of the bumer there is an 8mm bolts behind it

Side skirts.  One torx 25 screw (plastic) at the bottom of the front side skirts.  The resr are plastic pusher just pull on the bottom of the side skirt there pop out.  once theses are out open the doors and pull the side skirts off (there are held in with white plastic clips.  Again have spare ones from BMW.

to remove the wing this is more involved.  First remove the inner shit guards (about 20 8mm and 10mm bolts!).  Once removed I jet washed mine lol

Image

The headlight is bolted to wing.  There are sone other bolts (remove the windscreen side trim there is a philps bolt there).  The other bolts are on the top of the wing, open the drivers door to access the inner bolts.  The other one is on the side of the headlight you rneed a right angle screew driver or similar tool as its a bitch of a torx to get to.  YOur also need a bucket to drain the washer flud.  The drivers side wing is more difficult then the passanger side due to the washer bottle.

There you have it one wing

I didnt have time to remove the bonnet, My bodyshop well do that on Monday as I have stripped the most time consuming stuff off.  Its such great fun stripping your car lol.

I am hoping to refit the car back on Friday eveing so I'll get pics up as this happens :-)

Enjoy

lol yeah true say but it is fun :-).  As there being painted there better off the car, the front end by the the head lamp washer had a few stone chips and they would just stick out to much with the fresh paint on the new bumper, also you dont want to mask around the headlamps the finish would be crap :-).  I dont mind stripping the car as when everything is off you can yet wash everything lol!.  I love the picture of the car with the wing off you can see the BBK and the H and R lowering spring :-).  Your be surprised how much room is behind the front wing you could hide loads of stuff in there lol!.

Just a thought but why not switch bonnet for a powerdome version whilst you have everything off and a spraygun to hand?  >:D

My performance rear lip spoiler, performance rear window slats, Hamann pedal kit, BMW fr & rear mudflaps and 3m Ventureshield front end protection get fitted Tuesday.  Have decided to get the performance side skirts as well as the rear diffuser, and hope to have those sprayed & fitted within the next month.  We must compare the looks when done  8) 8)

ps.  what do you think of the ACS bonnet slats?

Does look good but for me just turns the front end into a complete X6M rep whereas standard bonnet with X6M bumper and VRS splitter adds a little more mystery for those in the know.

Not as expensive as I would have thought.  That said I was concerned when the web page was loading (slowly) and ads saying 'Spread the Cost' & '0% interest' came up first  :'(
