Vredestein Sessanta Tyres

Hi All

Just want to see if anyone currently running Vredestein tyres 285 45 19?

Just wanted to get some feed back on how they handle, noise and wear.

Wll any extra info would be great.

On the old site testimonials re wet/dry grip, handling and noise were good.

As this tyre new to most havent seen a testimonial on wear though I belive they may be a little soft - whilst this makes for good grip it would be fair to say mega miles shouldn't be expected.

If the tyre is softer, does that mean i have more grip but less life in the tyres?

Yes generally speaking.

A balance needs to be drawn - no good having HB eraser longevity but also no good having a set of random brand ditchfinders that last forever.

Fwiw if I was considering deviating from my Michelins for cheaper I would have maybe considered Vredestein Sessanta or Toyos.

Have a look at xoutpost or take a look this clicky link I was suprised to see that this SOLER review indicates htey didnt seemingly do that well in braking tests dry & wet. Odd as I had prior read lots of good things re these.

I have been running Vredestein Sessanta tyres on my 06 E53. They look great, but my advice would be to avoid them. I put a full set on in January 2010 (I've got 20s so have 275/40s on the front and 315/35s on the back) and to my horror I've had to replace them this week because the backs were almost slicks and the fronts had worn scarily unevenly - 3-4mm left on the inside edge but bald on the outside edge (one of them worn through to the canvas!). That's after about 10k miles of general use - mixture of motorway and A/B road commuting.

Have had the wheel alignment checked today and it was only slightly out - garage tells me definitely not enough to cause the sort of uneven wear I've been experiencing. So I've splashed out on Michelins this time which, while painful on the wallet initially (they're about 30% more expensive than the Vredesteins) will I think work out cheaper over the life of the tyres. First impressions are that the Michelins produce a lot less road noise too.

Got them on my 330i sport touring. Great value & no more specific road noise than the previous Michelins. This might appear to contradict what 'Wilch' has just stated, but different size & car.

The wheel alignment you had done, was it a full KDS one, with the weight and full tank of fuel?

That's the ultimate 'correct' method of doing a full 4 wheel alignment on an X5. Cambers, toes (in or out), bush wear contibute to uneven wear.

I'm thinking Toyo or a good Costco del for the Michelins but will be checking out this 'new' minimum tread rule now!

That is a scary amount of wear in 10k miles! Glad I stuck to the Michelins - a case of better the devil you know for me...

I was always told to have it done on half a tank of fuel as the majority of driving is done closer to half a tank than it is to a full tank? I doubt it makes that much difference anyway once you stick an 80+kg driver in there like me!

Am in the market for changing the rears and was seriously looking at these.

Replaced the Michelins on my last X5 with Toyo's and was very impressed with them. Although I did only run them for 3 months before I sold it, so can't comment on longevity, but overall performance was very good - road noise was low, ride was comfortable and held the road well.

Now, the current X has 20" rims and I know that most people on here would stick to the Michelins, I personally don't like them. I feel they have a tendency to tramline - but this could just be me.

Anyway, I was and still and thinking about trying the Vredesteins. Not concerned about winter grip as I already have a set of winter wheels, but generally they get a good write up - apart from what I've seen from Wilch. But something to ponder.....
