Emirates A380

Post by mogsyman » Sun Nov 25, 2012 11:20 am

Hi guys

On my way to Dubai on a new Emirates A380 and all I can say is what an aircraft.

Sitting here in cattle (I know PVR, you're normally up the front ;) ), the seat is very comfortable with loads of leg room, not an unpleasant place to be for 6 or so hours.

Good enough food, more entertainment than I'll ever use and fully wifi'd up :)

This thing is huge. Take a 747 and pump it full of steroids and you'll get the picture. I think you could comfortably play footy on the wings and the engines are simply massive.

Having experienced this, I'm not sure how I'll cope on my next European trip on sleezyjet!

Now I've just got to find out if they show the F1 on these things!

I'm impressed that you've got wifi on the flight.  Let me know when you fly over west London and I'll give you a wave - see those a380s flying over all the time and they're an impressive sight!  :))

Good to know.  We'll probably fly 'Emirates' when budgets allow us to have holidays outside the UK again.  A baby on a 12-hour flight is not my 'preferred' option... :'(.  A break in Dubai before travelling on seems to be a good idea (to me).  Especially as we will have to fly 'cattle' from now on too.

We were parked next to one of their 380's at LHR before we went to Thailand on a 340-600, and though that's not a small airliner the 380 simply dwarfed us.  It still amazes me man has managed to make 500 tonnes of plane and people fly so well......even if we still have to do it sub-sonically!

I've flown Emirates previously but the new generation of aircraft are in a different league.

Currently just going past Bucharest watching a film.....and of course surfing the net!

Have a good flight.

Is that loads of leg room for you (i.e. for your 2" stumps of legs) or even for normal people?  :))

I make a point of flying Emirates whenever I do long haul with work now.  Business class is something else, and the A380 flies from Manchester so I'm well happy :-)
Have a m8 who lives in Sports City so have a 48 hour stopover for some golf every time I fly through .  Only bummer is the flight back which leaves at 430am (if I want to be on the 380 that is).
Was Skyping the family on my iPad, live from the plane last time; why doesn't every airline offer this??

My folks are flying BA to NZ and they've been charged £65 per flight leg to pre-book their seats in Business Class.  4 flight legs, four separate charges.  At £4.5k a return ticket I'd have told BA where to stick the seat booking charge.  It's £80 if you want upstairs in their ancient 747-400s!!  I've never been charged to pre-book a specific Business Class seat on any airline.  Another good reason not to fly BA (which after a very poor flight 15 years ago I never do)!! Thieving p!ss takers......as bad as some BMW Dealers!  >:(

Makes me laugh with the panic you get from the stewardesses that if you get a phone or eReader out when they are taxiing to the terminal. As if something is going to happen ...

Then other airlines you get wifi :)

We are spending a couple of weeks in California next summer.  BA from Dublin to Heathrow to Los Angeles  and then returning San Francisco to Heathrow and then Dublin.  Two adults and the 10 year old daughter.  £1300 total!  I can't complain at those prices.  That said they also wanted me to pay the £65 per person per leg for the privilege of booking seats.......I'll take my chances when online booking opens.
