Changing Angel Eyes - from Yellow to White.

Post by Gaff » Tue Nov 06, 2012 4:44 pm

Help needed. I am always one for trying, but has anyone here fitted MTEC LED Ring Marker's before? I have had a look on my Facelift E53, and think I have found the standard Angel Eye ring light, but can't figure out how to remove it. Thinking it would be a twist and turn, then pull out. But that didn't happen! Someone said I would need to remove the entire light? Thanks

Thanks Ian, I managed to get the old out and the new in, Didn't use the little cable that the new ones came with, and plugged straight into the existing harness, but didn't work  :( . Was so looking forward. So going to email the guy I bought them from and take it from there. They are the ver 2.1 and not the £80. Ver 3.0 now out. But don't see why they shouldn't work, any ideas? Other than the bulbs aren't working.

As you found, very easy to remove and fit.

I have tried the mtec ones and a couple of other ones too as the are used on the E60, etc too. Never ever had a problem with them not working and I never used the additional wiring either. Is it only one or both not working?

Both not working. Have posted them back to the ebay seller. Will get a refund and then buy from Ligit shop. Any recommendations? 1st Ebay purchase not to go right.  >:(  but that's life.  ;)

That's the risk we all take when buying from eBay, but as the guy is taking them back with a full refund I don't think you can ask for anymore. In fairness to the seller, he no doubt expected them to work.

Yeah, hopefully he'll get them sometime this morning and do the refund soon after as emailed.
Thanks Raj for the website. I think after these, the next change would be the interior and number plates lights to white. Need to find a good set. Found LED's on EBAY again, a bit doubtful one out of the set doesn't work.
Stay well everyone, have a good week.

Just a quick note, if the bulbs are like on the E60 and going into a standard T5 housing you have to make sure you get them in the right way round.  As they are LEDs polarity has to be correct for them to light up.

Im sure you already know but worth a mention just in case.

Cheers, The housing is shaped so that it can only be inserted in one direction. Even I couldn't get this one wrong  :P

Changed mine back last year from the yellow to white, when one of the side light bulbs went and kept getting the beep everytime I started up and the message, check side/parking lights. As a replacment bulb and holder were nearly £28.00 I decided to upgrade. Ordered the LED's and changed them both out, it was a straight swap. See link below.

Thanks for the tip couldn't understand why one worked and the other didn't and when swopped left to right the left one then worked on right. Just swopped LED around and Hey Presto both now work

Cheers for the invaluable tip

I've upgraded to led angle eye lights.  Nice and simple mod, went with the 20 watt version.  See signature.
