How long does it take to build an X5?

Post by Bob » Thu Nov 08, 2012 1:18 pm

Hi. My new car goes into production week 48 this year. I can't see that we can track it via BMW UK website.

Any ideas how long to build as well as ship over anyone?

Thanks. Bob

Mine took around 10 weeks from date of order (Feb 2011) to pick up from dealership.  I think it went into production within a couple of weeks of ordering as I tried to make a spec change and saw that it had been locked in the system so couldn't.  May be a bit quicker now as I assume there's a bit less demand.

What did you go for ?

That's pretty quick, I'd be pleased if I get mine that quickly.
Gone for an M50d, Carbon black/ Cinnamon leather. Gone a little ' wild in the aisles' with extras but as planning to keep for a few years worth doing I reckon

You know when you get a bad feeling about someone......I'm sort of getting that feeling with you Bob.  I can't quite put my finger on the reason why? Jealous, JEALOUS, me? Never!  >:(

All jesting aside, it will be a long wait, but one that will be sooooo worth it, congratulations on the order and looking forward to pics and reviews when she does indeed arrive.

Well done for loading up on the extras - there are some really good ones and I'm sure you won't regret it.  I went for rather a lot and there's only a couple that were a waste and one that I wish I had gone for ...

Look forward to seeing the photos when it breaks cover ...

Thanks guys. It's ridiculous, haven't felt this excited about something since I was a kid! Never bought a new car before so it's always been a matter of a few days' wait in the past

U know what, I actually started out looking for a nearly new one- not many I know. Financing 50% of the car. It actually costs substantially more per month to buy second hand due to the higher APR so ended up being a no brainier to buy new

Ah ha someone else I can bother with M50d related issues soon then ;-)

My X6 derivative went into build w/b 8 Oct and is due in at the dealers imminently, with collection middle of next week (if the cherished transfers can be done in good time).  4-5 weeks for shipping once built is the figure I was quoted.

Enjoy!

If you really want to track your car once it's left the factory then you could follow

Reply 2 on the linked thread.  The same question got asked a while back, and I had tracked my E53 in 2005 (very sad I know but.....) so the links should still work.

You will need to know when the car leaves the plant as that will allow you to guess the right ship.... :)

Don't care about being a nerd- just can't wait to get it. Local dealer lending me an X6 m50d for couple of days to play with so that should be fun
