Possible group buy - DI Vessel

Ok Doug from DAQUA popped round yesterday as he wasn't too far from me at a late meeting. I wanted him to check mine as mine is now spotting and like Richard I've not had a huge amount of washes out of it in the 3 months I've had it.

Firstly he checked both pre (297ppm) and post (22ppm) treated water using his TDS meter. It did give rather different readings to my eBay jobbie but still proved what I had been telling him. He then used a calculation to work out te number of litres of pure water I should get out of a full DI vessel with new resin in. It worked out to about 750litres of pure water. He then said you probably use about 30 litres per rinse for a normal car but the X5 is a lot bigger, but using 30litres as a guide gives about 25 washes. So with the X5 being much bigger that may end up being 16ish for example so possibly about right for the number of uses.

Still at this rate it's potentially going to work out quite pricey (and I totally hold pvr responsible.... ).

He did advise that another option is to add an RO system (reduce my ppm down to 15-20ppm) in place to fill a water butt to use the DI off that as the RO will apparently last a couple of years of use and the DI too would last a number of years. But of course that would cost me...lol.

Ok, that's bad enough, but I've only done half a dozen washes through mine, so that's going to be even more expensive, not good as far as I'm concerned.

I think the thought process should be the other way round or directed to pvr...lol

TBH I agree. Apart from the extra pressure the amount of washes is turning out the same as waterspot filters (which were crap anyway)...

Got that with my pressure washer machine but won't help in this case as it's the water butt pump goes to the DI Vessel and has one coarse mesh filter.  The device I made up is a much finer meshed filter and allows better gunk control into the DI Vessel and because I'm not using the PW for rinsing.

Ok, I thought you had like me the submersible Karcher pump to get the water out of the barrel. I was not talking about the PW feed merely the pump to feed the hose for the final rinse.

Me too.  But my final rinse goes Water Butt > Sub Pump (built-in coarse filter) > Short Hose > Fine filter above to further clean the input to > DI Vessel > More Hose > Jet Nozzle.

Belt and braces to keep the DI Vessel input as clean as possible.  A bit OCD, but it helps.
If I'm using the PW then the same fine filter goes into the line but is directly on the front of the PW and there's no sub-pump as the PW can 'pull' enough supply on it's own off the butt.  I think it can 'lift' a water head of about 2 metres - though in my case it's more or less a level field as the water butt is 45cm off the ground on a stand and has a 'hoselock' type tap so allowing a direct connection at the tap point.

Say two washes a week for the number of weeks I have had it. About 5 months I guess?

I would have to check how long we can keep the stuff stored without it going off though. One bag is just over 2 fills which would be about a year's use I would guess.

From the link that Raj posted earlier in the thread, it is not quite clear what "package" you need to buy as they come with filters of all sorts by the looks of it.

I'll give Doug a call tomorrow to see what offer he can do on the resin. The resin that was supplied in the group buy was the MB-115 mixed bed resin. Tbh pvr yours lasted ages by comparison to mine.
