I don't have telestart - I just bridged the wires as I saw in what I thought was one of your posts.
I don't really understand multimeters (yet), And ain't no sparky. I had the multimeter set to 20k ohms and stuck a pin into each pin on the glow plug wire. Result 0.00. I was under the impression that was good as it meant the wire / element wasn't broken. (Continuity?) - now learnt otherwise - if someone can explain it in dumbass language for me it would be much appreciated ::)
The same test connected to the webasto side (thinking that was the glow plug side -doh!) read 16.0
Got the reset from post #164 and section 5 of the webasto repair manual (although maybe irrelevant for BMW)

i see what you mean. apologies i thougt you were talking about the oem telestart T91 kit which i don't have.
ok yes bridging it is the right way to test. its the same as +12v to pin 1. that's the 'other end' of that wire u were previously asking about.

set the multimeter to the lowest ohms settings. in mine its 20ohms. then test it. that way it will read out hte sub 1 ohm readings better. if it's still showing a 0.00 that means the glow plug is fused. or short circuited.
which possibly indicates why you get cold air on the exhaust and then the unit shuts down, cos the glow plug is fused and is not firing it up.

i see, i guess i learn something everyday. can you send me that repair manual... out of curiosity.. i will PM u.
this is important though, because if your glow plug is faulty it will soon register an error in the cars and webos error memory and after that webo won't even try to start and blow cold air. then you need to reset the errors. i do this with the scanner and reslers devices.

Hi Jaynana, just wondering what was the final thing that got your setup working, you were wondering about the dosing pump, did that end up being the case?
How does the webasto get fuel? I was under the impression there was a pump within the webasto, I didn't realise there was a pump under the car, how does the 12v on pin 1 trick also trigger the external pump? (sorry for all the questions but you seem to have a good grasp on how it works )

it turned out to be the glow plug in my case.
it was a long journey though. through buying diagnostic tools and configuring sw for it, dismantling and servicing the webo, sending the pcb and glow plug to a service and repair shop, fixing it all back in.

I've got Progman but can't find where to return "Aux heating / ventilation" on the MID back to the original "Aux Ventilation" setting. Hopefully get my mate to do it at BMW next week.
I am under the impression as I do not have the parking heater function as standard - That when selecting Direct Heating on the MID (which i got programmed to be there), it sends the request / status checks to the various related components. The IHKA is not compatible, so shows a fault, and prevents the webasto from starting.
I've had a look with INPA and seen the water temperature rise from 49 degrees to 55 degrees - but the heater didn't seem to be running, nor was the car engine. At this point the overheating circle was black.
Dosing pump works when activated separately with INPA or DIS v57 but does not seem to run at all when a request is sent to the webasto to start. Verified the pump is working by both programs and by loud clicking, and there is a trace of diesel in the webasto exhaust and on the ground immediately under the exhaust exit.
There is an error - can anyone point me in the right direction with it????

The glow plug is not available seperately, you would have to buy a burner unit.

It is available seperate - somewhere in germany, as J got his pcb repaired and a new glow plug. Just Webasto wont sell it seperate - they must buy them from somewhere though.

i managed to get my webasto working again in time for cold wether!
last winter my aux heater stopped working remotely for some reason. it still ran normally when the car was running but just started up, ran for about a minute then shut down when started by timer or remote.
after a bit of digging around i discovered that my auxiliary electric water pump which sits down under the passenger side headlight has stopped working for some reason. this meant that when the aux heater was fired up without the engine running, the webasto simply overheated and went into shutdown mode.
but when the car was being driven, the cars mechanical water pump was circulating the water and so the webasto kept running as normal.
after much looking around for a new pierburg auxiliary electric water pump, i could only find them in stock overseas and for a lot of money!
i decided to take a gamble and buy from ebay a second hand pump that looked identical from an e39. when it arrived i fitted it and hey presto! my aux heater now fires up and runs again.
to all those still having trouble getting their heaters to stay running, it is important to check that there is a jet of water at the top of the rad when the cap is removed to view (without engine running). if not then your webasto will just overheat and shut down..
