New E70 - Aberdeenshire

Post by htiek » Mon Nov 05, 2012 12:56 pm

Hello all,
Been lurking on here for a few months now while deciding whether to take the plunge to update my X3 to an X5 or not. Anyhow, the deed is now done so it's about time I formally said hello!
I went for a 30d M Sport in space grey. Options I went for were the media pack, folding mirrors and the adaptive headlights. Oh, and the powered tailgate at the other half's insistance  ::)
I've done about 400 miles now and so far so good. One annoyance is; why, oh why can't the mirrors fold automatically when you lock the car? I keep forgetting to push the button on the door when I get out..
Anyhow, hopefully that will be the only niggle.

Some photos if I've got the photobucket thing right!
(Low sun and camera-phone - apologies for the quality..)

Cheers,
Keith

Congratulations on a fine looking beast.

I totally agree with the folding mirror niggle. I even think having to press and hold the lock button on the key fob is out of date.  So many cars out there fold as soon as the car is locked....simples!

Oh, nearly forgot to say,  :hi: to this great site.

Welcome aboard and congrats on the purchase.

Very nice looking example.

As for the folding mirrors, I'm sure it must be able to be coded as we did this on a previous E46 and E60. Jason may be able to provide input to this.

Welcome! And well done on the upgrade to the x5.

I agree that it's a right pita that you have to remember to fold the mirrors in - to press the button to NOT fold them when turning the car off would make more sense.

Nice car  8)

BMW in their wisdom have removed the ability to fold the mirrors with the key for 'health & safety'

You can get the car coded via an outside source, but to be honest on a car of that age I wouldn't bother.

Love the colour - but by the way.......avoid hail storms if you can  ;)

Can anyone explain the H&S reason for not permitting automatically folding mirrors?

Long or short answer?

Either way..............errrrrr, no.

Our old 3 series and previous X5's had that feature. I understand in the US it's standard but not in Europe.

The dealer has no idea why and won't re-code the car. It's a pretty simple job, I'm just nervous about fiddling with such a new car.

Probably not worth fiddling with for the sake of auto folding mirrors. Wouldn't trust BMW not to blame it for a major failure!

That's exactly why I haven't had mine re-coded.

Any excuse to wriggle out of a claim!

Oh yes.  I see you've owned lots of BMWs before so know how they work!  :upset:

You could say that  ;)

To be fair they've always been good to me, but knowing how difficult they can be it may simply be an opportunity to say 'non'

We can opt to have it done on porker but then you loose the puddle lights!

I therefore just press the button and it doesn't kill me !

Puddle lights.....

Are those that shine on the floor when you piss yourself because you've not driven a car that fast before?
