Stereo - Help Please

Post by bigsanj » Fri Nov 02, 2012 8:42 am

Well guys, the car is finally here. Drove it last night and the sound of the 4.4 is Amazing!!!!

Here is my problem. I listened the the radio yesterday and no problems but when I put a cd on I only get sound from the left side.  The right side has a slight crackle and that's it.

Could it be a dodgy connection at the back of the changer?

The car has the comms pack and sat Nav.

Photos to be up shortly!

are you sure that all sides work ok with the radio and the problem is only when you try a cd?

what you describe sounds like a common problem with the bm54 amplifier in these cars, i had this too. its easy to fix because its such a well known problem that there are so many repair services!

but then i'd expect it to impact both the radio and cd sounds.

if you have the problem when using the cd changer only it may be something else..

Hi Jaynana

Yup, only with cd changer. Trying to dig around and find a tape cassette to see if it happens with that too.

Read about the BM54 and found a place in Bradford that would repair it for £100.

Gonna have a play around today

If it is only happening with the cd then certainly would lead toward either the connection for the cd interchanger or the interchanger itself. Definitely try the tape though too.

Cassette Tapes.......probably have to go down the flea market to find such a thing.  I stopped using them a year before I ordered my E53 back in 2094!  What were BMW thinking >:(

Offer your wife a new handbag, that should allow you to sneak into the car.....for 30 seconds  ;)

What if you get one of those cassette tapes that is used for connecting ipods? Tape adapter for ipod? Wouldn't that answer your question? It should be easier to find one of those than find an actual tape. Just an idea!

Stereo - Help Please

Post by bigsanj » Tue Nov 06, 2012 8:18 pm

Well,  I found one of those plastic things called a cassette and tried it. I have sound from all the speakers.

So, am I right in thinking its not the bm54?

Also found out I have an aux in so will try that too.

Still baffled though, could it just be a knackered cd changer?

It certainly seems to lead towards an issue with the interchanger itself or the connection/lead for the interchanger.

Evening all,

Well Yippee!!! I fixed the cd changer and now i have sound from both sides :) One of the cables at the back of the unit was unplugged

But there is always a but!!!!

I decided to be a smart arse and do a V32 update on my unit. I put in the disc with the update and waited for it to eject - which it did.

Now the problem - i am left with a blank screen on the head unit.

Ive pulled out the fuses, disconnected all the units but cant get no image.

The main unit in the rear is - 65.90-6 915 035.

Is the above unit a cd or dvd unit.

This is what i purchased -

Need your help oh wise ones

Have i buggered the system?
