Re: Winter Tyre Info and Discussion Thread ( Keep related chat here please)
I'll be switching to my minilites with winter tyres on later today after my new summer tyres get fitted, snow here on Friday night and its been from 2 up to 8 degrees for a week now.
Ohh I can't wait, the comfort returns!

Hmm, sounds like I need to get mine sorted shortly then.. Still, it's 33C here in Southern Thailand. I don't think they ever need winter tyres!! Rain tyres, yes, but 'Winters' would be bald on day 1!!

I am just in the process of installing the winch so I can get them down (and the summers back up ...)!

Switched to 17" Winter set up today..........Been in storage so all cleaned before fitting. Cheated & took them to bw swapped at a friendly local independent tyre outfit for equivalent price of a drink......Saved me from crawling on floor & other faffing around.

Found a set of these on Gumtree this week with Goodyear Ultra Grip slippers on them. Guy was looking for £1600. Went to view yesterday and they were as new and the tyres still had more than 7.5mm tread on them all round. Got him down to £1400 so reckon I've got a bargain. Fitted straight away at local Indy tyre place and did a 100 mile round trip straight afterwards.
Verdict: WOW! They are ten times more comfortable than our 20" summer set up and far quieter. Will struggle to go back to the staggered 20"s I think.... Other than the fact the 211s look a teeny bit lost in the arches I can see why people opt for smaller wheels. Will seriously consider going to non RFTs....
About to move house to a place where it's up a steep hill and the road never gets gritted or ploughed so hopefully will justify the cost but at over £1k saved for a brand new set I reckon I've done well!

Re: Winter Tyre Info and Discussion Thread ( Keep related chat here please)
Sounds like a bit of a result.....
Mine will be booked in to do next week. BMW store and change mine as I have no room for the 'off set', never mind they weigh a ton - so much for 'light alloy'..

Re: Winter Tyre Info and Discussion Thread ( Keep related chat here please)
The RFTs weigh an absolute ton by themselves - picked one up when got tyre replaced following a puncture (kind builders round here like to leave nails in the road). But i guess that's what you would expect having a wall strong enough to support a >2 tonne car. Not sure what the wheel itself weighs, but the two combined are certainly uncomfortable to lift by myself, so also glad to have the dealer take care of it!

They did weight a ton. Also you don't really appreciate just how big and wide they are until they are off the car. Enormous! As I bought the wheels privately can't get storage from the stealers. Luckily house we are moving to has a double garage with padlock hooks sunk into concrete floor so perfect place to store them.

Re: Winter Tyre Info and Discussion Thread ( Keep related chat here please)
The back 20" wheels weigh 7st / 43kg. They are sitting in the garage with my lightweight 15" Skoda Alloys on top!
Re: Winter Tyre Info and Discussion Thread ( Keep related chat here please)
For those with BMW Storage, my Dealer is now charging £79-60 for a year's storage, two changes and two 90-minute safety checks. Not a bad deal if like me you don't have storage space or a crane to lift the wheels.
