Sat nav

Post by kena » Tue Oct 30, 2012 3:17 pm

Hi Everyone, haven't been on the forum for quite awhile now, for a number of reasons.
Working abroad again, have moved house and now at the end of having a large extension built on the new property. So I would like to say hello once again.
Still have the 4.8 although I was thinking ofgetting rid a few months ago for a 3.6TDV Range Rover or a newish X5. Have since changed my mind and decided to keep the 4.8 for a little while longer.
Anyway, the reason for my post:

My satnav has been acting up recently. It has been losing position and has the position of the car several 100 meters from its true location, sometimes several miles. It seems to take a long time to lock onto the satellites but once it has a lock it jumps to the correct position. Is there an easy fix or am I looking at replacement parts. I have heard that you can recalibrate it by driving in a figure 8, is that correct.

Any help or info would be appreciated before I visit the stealers....

I should mention that I have changed discs ( I am currently on a 2011 disc but have tried the 2010 disc ) but still the same problem. I have a 2004 original BMW disc somewhere but need to find it before I can try it.

Disk is not relevant for that anyway.

Can you go in the hidden menu to look at how many satellites you have on there? If it is only 2, it will be the aerial that is your issue.

They are a tenner from eBay and you can plug them in anywhere as they are magnetic, so just pull the old one out of the back of the MKIV unit and plug the new one in, and clip it in the boot somewhere above that drive.
