E70 3.0D SE Economy issue

Post by squeaky2 » Sat Oct 20, 2012 9:09 pm

Already been into BMW to complain that my sd is 10% less economical than the e53 but I love the car too much to care really.

I do sympathise with you but if you want an economical car with some space your better off looking at a 320d touring.

Do wish you best of luck with the dealer though

Thanks,

Anyone had experience of returning a BMW AUC car in the first few days?

I paid £5k up front but £3500 was the deficit on my 7 series (had it on select and did 16k miles a year when i should have done 8k), then paid the £460 tax for the X5 too.

I know I can cancel the finance agreement as I am well within the cooling off period, what I am unsure about is the actual car purchase.

In an ideal world I would just reverse the deal but doubt this is possible as the dealer will have settled the finance and probably moved my 7 to an auction house.

It does sound very low.  Mine is low 30's - and there's not much weight difference between the E70 & E71.  It's not been set for US Gals by any chance has it?

Damn!  It was an off the wall thought, but worth looking.

Any signs of smoke - as in rich mixture?  Does your version have a DPF, and is it being affected......defo dealer type checks/discussions.  Just wondering if it's been used on short journeys and is clogged?  How's the power?  Good, bad?

Scratching my head trying to think of the more obvious checks......... ???

Hi, power feels good, I did a gearbox reset which helped with take-off a lot, no smoke but I believe it has a DPF, no fault codes logged at all, can't believe that all E70 3.0 diesel give the economy I am getting.

...just returning to this my OBC shows 26 miles per US gallon with mixed driving some motorway at 110 kph and about the same town driving.  That is approximately equal to 31 mpg imperial.  On a straight  motorway cruise it does noticeably better than this.
This is driving in Canada though and it's rather pedestrian round here.
Mind you, loads of stop lights that slow you down more than roundabouts, and I use Highway 401 during rush hour - one of the busiest in North America (allegedly)

Are they giving any indication of what the problem is/was?  Too expensive to fix?

Yours has to be about the shortest ownership going.....that's rough!!  :cry1:

Sorry to hear you're having to sell - hope you're happy with the 7 series. Good to hear the dealer is being reasonable by the sound of things.

Surely this x5 must have had something wrong? I was seriosly thinking of putting mine up for sale in the next week or so to get a 35sd or whatever there called! Probly a 58plate somewhere round there, just can't bring myself to pay the high tax, or should o commit x5 driver suicide and go look at the very nice range rover sport for sale local to me!

I have a 58plate 3.0sd.  Best economy so far really has been about 28mpg but the computer is sitting at around 19mpg around town.. I still think the car is very thirsty compared to the e53.  Has been into BMW but nothing found to be wrong.  Still think my missing flaps dont help.

Fortunately i dont use the car to commute and just love the rest of the car too much.  I know that generally both the 30d and the 40d are actually more economical but id never get the same spec car if i changed so i'll just suffer the extra cost of the diesel

Hmmm I'm realy confussed how the e70 can be so bad surely its not that much heavyer than an e53, if I didn't use my car for work I think on all the quoted mpgs I'd buy a 4.8, I can't afford a 40d and thaught the 30d would be abit boring when the twin turbos are available for the same money, my comute is very hilly and lots of lights, r\bouts and istill averaging 29 in the e53, I love the look of the rrs but their even less power than the e53 around 190 I think so would probly be very slow!

[/quote]Spot on. Managed 30MPG today but at a very steady speed of 60MPH! 21MPG locally so sounds like they are the actual figures. A far cry from 40MPG BMW quote!!
