Replacing Tv/Sat-Nav with ebay one

Post by Franknstein » Thu Oct 18, 2012 2:39 pm

I'm considering selling my original BMW SatNav/Tv unit and replacing with this:
http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/BMW-E39-E53-5 ... 3a6f91916b

anyone else have any experience with this particular unit?
I must say, I searched high and low for a BMW with all my options, and one option was in-dash sat-nav, but then I found out my 40 quid garmin is far better as it supports post codes!

So I'd much like an upgrade... also liking the idea of touch-screen, Mp3/Ipod capability, built in bluetooth, reverse cam inputs, and also I guess I can get it to show inputs from my rear-headrest entertainment system.

What you guys reckon?

I know there is the Dynavin and that hualingan... both I presume better as they are more expensive, but how much better...

I fitted the Dynavin D99 android unit and I am very happy with it, few setup issues but when you get them sorted its a great unit and a big improvement on my previous business headunit.

I rewired the OBC to the glovebox (ten minute job) to keep the full computer functions as the one of the dynavin is just ok

I know that it supports CDC, can this be enough to confirm it's a 4th gen? It might charge iPod and has a white cable, but I can't confirm these two right now.

What do you think?

Woow it looks like OEM! I really like it.

I don't see a difference between both units except for the colorful icons (is this a setup preference?) plus two arches at both upper angles of your unit (are these covering screws?).

Guys am I having the 5th gen??  ::)

I can see the resolution of yours is not bad in day as I've read. Did you add a protection film or something?

It came with the protective film just never took it off.
On the image you have, the eject button is on the right side where my navi button is located and eject button on mine is on the left side.

Hi Kodal, I've just installed similar unit. But the CDC changer has no voice. I can see the new unit reading the CDs correctly, but no voice! How can I fix this?

Replacing Tv/Sat-Nav with ebay one

I did not see a point for cdc so i don't have mine connected. The main purpose of this unit for me was touch screen satnav, dvd capability, bluetooth and ipod connectivity. With ipod you really dont need a cdc. But as i said i dont have my cdc connected so cant help you on that one. Sorry

I'm having the following problem (discovered so far)  :camera:
- Radio sometimes/some places works very good, sometimes do not catch any station. Changing the radio area does not make a difference. Why? Where did you connect radio antenna to?
- When I touch the MOVIE icon, and in order to locate the movies file, I press the file icon, but it refers me to the right SD (GPS) card. How can I choose the left SD card?
- In the volume settings, what is SUB?
- In the GPS FILE PATH page, there is a PK tick, what is this? I couldn't notice any difference when I tick/untick that red box?
- I can't read from my iPod. Is this because it's old type (model A1059) or because it's formatted as exFAT not FAT32?
- I tried to format my iPod, but laptop says "Windows unable to format". Is there a way I don't know?
- When I start my car, the unit shows some image (previously I chose from navigation images). How can I change this image e.g. put BMW logo that appears when DVD loads? Can I upload image from SD for example?

If you answer some questions I'll be very thankful  ::)

Just connected the blue wire (TUN-ANT) to a +12 VDC source; radio reception is just perfect!
