Aftermarket audio upgrade - Help please..

Hi all, I have a 2008 X5 3.0d with Logic7 speaker system, but still not happy with the sound I receive from speakers. At the start I was fairly happy with sound, but after a while you start to feel it’s muddy and all the sound comes from the centre dash speaker. There is not a lot of base and the highs is not that great either. I’ve looked at all options and decided to upgrade the door speakers, add 2 subwoofers under floor in the boot with 2 amps and processor. Still have not decided on brands to go for but are open to suggestions. I’m leaning towards JL Audio.
Something I just cannot find on the internet or the forums are the colour coding for the speaker wires coming out the factory amp to tap off to the processor. Does anybody know the colour coding or have pictures from their X5 with aftermarket amp so I can work out what the colour coding is?
Also please share pictures of your own aftermarket installs so we can get some ideas.
I will take pictures as I proceed with the install and create write up to share with others. Any help, advice and highlighting potential pitfalls from guys that have done this install before would be greatly appreciated.

Are all your speakers working correctly?  How many are in the car?

I've got the full Logic 7 system and it's a full surround sound system and far from 'muddy' or low on bass (sub under each front seat).  Just wondering if there's a system fault... ???

Don't worry Blade, you'll get used to him.  He dreams of having an E70.  He's a bit good with the E53 so may well know what to look for..at etc..

Hi X5Sport, sorry was away for long weekend and had no access to internet connection. To reply I've full Logic7 with 15 speakers and they all work perfectly. It's just I'm use to good after market sound system and had 6x9's, mids,tweeters and 12inch sub in my old E46 and just miss the clear mids at volume and deep bass.
Sanj yes I know, its corny and I will change profile pic asap, was just messing around with personal settings, lol!
So have any of you guys upgraded sound system on E70 with 12" subs and amplifier? The main thing I was looking for is the colour coding of amp speaker wires to tap off. I have the stock 600W amplifier. Thank you.

Hi and welcome.

Kav (westside) has fitted JL kit into his E70. A couple of amps, sub and replaced the OE front speakers too. Have a search in this sub forum for his threads and you'll see some pics, etc.

In terms of wiring, I think the following may apply. Could be a good starting point:

LOGIC7 System
Amplifier to Speakers

SUB LEFT
Red/White +
Brown/Yellow -

SUB RIGHT
Red/Blue +
Brown/White -

FRONT LEFT
Blue/White +
Blue/Brown -

FRONT RIGHT
Blue/Black +

Thank you Raj, I really appreciate it. I've been looking everywhere on the net for this info and nobody could provide me with this. Top man!
I've also looked at Westside's posts and for some reason none of the pics are available to view. Saying "Sorry. This person moved or deleted this image.
The most important info I have now and I can start deciding on speakers that will fit doors and design space under the boot floor for subs and amplifiers.

Yeah I've noticed Kav's pics have all gone. Will ask him about it. As for the colour coding of the wires, I'm pretty sure that's it but will be good to have confirmation of such when you check yours.

hi yeah dont know where the pics went

I had an audsion bit 10 fitted to my x5
up front I had the focal 5.25 slimeline in the doors (replace the original 4" speakers)
inthe rear I had the focal 4" slimelines fitted
I had the 8" earch quake subs under the seats (replace the BMW ones)
In the boot I had a JL w6 13" subs.
Amp wise I had the JL HD 600/1 to power the sub
and a JL HD 100*6 to power the rest of the set up.

I've actually just had all the factory stuff fitted back to the car as its up for sale and the stero will be fitted to a x6 if I can make up my mind weather to get that or a AMG c class lol!

SCR in Ashford Middlesex did the install for me.

Must admit I regret not going for the Individual system rather than Professional one - it does sound pretty good but misses that edge and the bass could be sharper.  What do you think the weaker link the amp or the speakers?

I would say the weaker is the amplifier. The speakers actually plays extremely well on a aftermarket amplifier.

I'm currently installing the system. I've purchased following to install:

Focal 4" slimline Components for doors
2x 8" Earthquakes slim under front seats
JL XD700/5
JL XD600/1
2x 12" Alphine swr-t12 subwoofers in boot under floor
Audiocontrol LCi 8ch processor

Will update you how it goes.
