Pairing Phone

Post by Pete » Thu Sep 30, 2010 5:35 pm

Please could someone point me in the right direction to an idiots guide for phone pairing video (Mark 4 Sat Nav) as I am having trouble setting it up. I'm not sure if it could be down to my phone or more than likely the fact that I am inept

Am I right in thinking that once I get Activate phone on the info screen that this should make the car's bluetooth system visible to my phone?

yes u need to know the passkey for the bluetooth unit located in the luggage area.. 4 digits u will also find this 4 digit code in the bluetooth manual next to your handbook generally found in the glovebox.. once u know the code and search for your phone add the device. and hey presto.... to get activate phone up put ignition into 1st position and press and hold the phone button in the centre console to activate pairing mode....

Pete - I recall the bluetooth code is on the service manual I gave you with the car. I'll PM you with a scan of the pairing procedure I got with the 6310i adapter as well.

My bluetooth drops the connection every now and again too... I have the iPhone so do you think if I deleted the messages stored on the car it might sort this problem (iPhone messages do not upload i'm sure)?

Pretty funny reading the previous owners texts... clearly he was having an affair!

I can't even get to the car into pairing mode. I have been doing as follows:

Unlock car, press button next to cradle for a few seconds (keep pressed) turn key to position one and hold for 5secs.

Every video I have seen shows that there is a blip sound and the three LED's on the computer come on to show it is in pairing mode. I have also tried this with key in position two and holding the button for longer but no joy.

Please can someone advise me of the exact procedure they use.

Thanks.

Why are you pressing the button by the cradle and not the one on the Sat Nav / Head Unit?

If I had my handbook to hand I would tell you the exact process. Press the button, immediately turn the key to Position 1 and hold until it goes into Pairing Mode. If it doesn't then my memory isn't working properly sorry...

The only other thing is to clear the Bluetooth memory as it only holds 4 Paired phones... this may then free up space for you to pair yours. Not sure how to do it though... Sanj might know.

Thanks Turks,
All of the videos I have seen just show the people pressing the one next to the cradle (picture of a face). Are you referring to the button with a telephone on it which is on the head unit? I'll give that one a go and see how I get on! It has crossed my mind that there may be 4 phones already in the memory so if you can find the clearing procedure that will be great.

I also have an intravee connected and the computer seems to search for the ipod straight away - I'm going to try doing the procedure without an ipod connected as I think it may be conflicting.

Copied from xoutpost:

You press and hold the only button that you can see inside the phone dock in the armrest. After about ten seconds you switch the ignition on to number 2 whilst still holding the button. After about 5 secs, let go and your system will go into pairing mode. Then you search for it with your phone, enter the code the switch off the ignition to seal the deal

:headbang: I've used every technique I've read about and tried every combination of buttons, ignition positions etc imaginable and it it just won't let me do it :headbang:

So...with that in mind, what is the procedure to clear the memory (as I've read it can only store 4 phones)

It says it will throw one off when you add a new one though.

... and if I recall correctly there were only 2 paired phones when I sold you the car - both nokia 6310i. Have you confirmed your phone is supported by the BMW implementation of Bluetooth? Some work better than others from the evidence I've seen/heard about.
