switching on from the nav screen and switching on from the remote shoudl be exactly the same. input to webo is the same - +12v to pin1/remote.
except just one thing - the remote has a 'latching' capability to keep the pin1/remote powered for whatever duration (30mins in this case).
u can test ur remote kit to see if it does this, a simple volt meter check should do.
2 ft thing - that's a bummer! supposed to work 60m??

here's what i'd do:
1. check that pin 1 of below gets +12v with the volt meter (i'm sure it does, if not fuse 86 is to the first culprit)
2. do the above test connection to isolate the issue (either webo or the remote):
basically pin 3 gets powered +12v from pin 1. pin 1 is power, pin 3 is remote start signal to webo.
you say if you enable the webo from the satnav screen the webo runs for half hr? in which case if you do this it should run as well (ensure u DONT DISCON IN LESS THAN 3 MIN - not good).
if that does not run the webo there's some issue with the webo or the wiring or something else.
if that makes the webo work u have an issue with the remote. if this is the case u have to check the remote:

- disconnect the remote receiver
- provide power to it (pin 1 is +12v; last pin (6?) is ground).

OK that's mine fitted and working perfect.
The OEM plug in the boot doesn't fit straight into the Carsystems T91, it's the wrong shape.
A loom is supplied that plugs into the T91 and has bare wires on the other end (6 of them but only 3 are needed - Red, Black, Green). Simply cut of the OEM BMW plug and solder/heat shrink them (pull fuse 86 first).
Route the aerial upto the rear window and your done !
When you press On the red light illuminates, then it flashes every couple of seconds while it's running to confirm its On, it's pre programmed to run for 30mins but can be changed in incrimates of 10mins and can be stopped with the Off button at any time.
Range is supposed to be 1000Metres, I haven't tested it that far yet but will try later when I take the dog out !

I'm not great with pics Denis but they would've been identical to Jaynana's. The connector your looking for is taped to the 40pin quad lock for the radio tuner and there's some plastic clips there to hold the module in place (it's not a tight fit but the extra wiring of the new loom will pad it out) there's already loads of cable running from the battery across to the drivers side rear window area, so follow that, then up behind the lights to the glass area for the aerial. There are 2 screws holding the Plastic trim in place on the C pillar, 1 is visible the other is behind the little cover around the latch for the rear tailgate (this little cover pulls off and you'll see the screw) this should give you enough flex to squeeze the aerial and cable through without fully removing the panel as its clipped to the headlining.
I don't doubt the 1000M range in clean air, it's worked this morning inside a building about 4-500M away with other buildings between us.

I have sent it to a contact i found in Germany, who has a full BMW webasto test harness and claims to repair these units (can't really remember how i found him..) its not really a risk cos i've got mine working with a spare unit.

i've sent my pcb (he calls it the cpu) to this.
he's fixed the unit, i've paid £90 for it incl a new glow plug + shipment, he's posted it back; however, as per the DHL tracking number its still on its way back!
if all goes well i will get it by this weekend and i'll fix it in the webo and test it in the car this weekend.
planning to do a post once i have a confirmation on the success/failure of this service.

My 4.8is has a Webasto, its brilliant in the winter. Shudder to think what BMW would do if it ever had to be replaced as the main dealers are that good that they told me that even my Comms Pack was non-oem, remember........and that they had decided the tv tuner was analogue.......... Ages ago they told me the Webasto could not be fitted on a petrol car so I showed them where it was, both on the car and on the printout of my Xes options........their eyes were out on stalks! Mine is slightly different to the diesel version as it says "benzin" on the side and presumably runs on petrol. It was a pricey option from memory, around £1000, very few around in the UK and most dealers pretend they never existed.
One of the guys on Landyzone actually fitted a webasto to his P38 petrol Rangey - it was a diesel webasto that he managed to buy from a scrappy out of a Rover 75, he concocted some sort of tiny diesel tank to fuel it, and as I remember it worked very well - so Turks, there is hope yet, I am sure it can be done!
There is a parking heater specialist on the VW T4 forum - he is very helpful and knowledgeable. I discovered our ancient (but venerable) Caravelle has an aux heater as its one of the higher spec models for its time (2001) but its an Eberspacher so quite complicated and expensive to get it working as a parking heater as well - this guy has been very helpful with looking into converting it and he does repairs and installations of Webastos mainly, so worth a shout if you are stuck.

i've received the package as below - my PCB tested and working, new glow plug:
fixed into my original and serviced webo (serviced as per original post on this thread), fixed into the car, ALL WORKING FINE!
so that's my own webo repaired.
which means:
- i can confirm a webo pcb test/repair service for BMWs
- i now have a spare working webo, bought from an online breaker, still with about a month of warranty left.. which i can sell or attempt to return.
said that, CondorX5, still keen to know the parking heater specialist on the VW T4 forum if u or somebody can send me a link pls.. few things worth discussing

Heres a link to his profile on the vwT4 forum. We have an ancient Caravelle, so am a member on there, it is a great resource for the T4 and T5 vans. Not many BMWs or indeed any other marques can boast the starship mileages these old vans run up, ours is close to 300K miles! This guy really knows his stuff with these heaters and does installations and repairs full time.
