Hello

Post by Martin 335d » Sat Sep 29, 2012 11:42 pm

Hello All,

I just want to introduce myself over here, I'm Martin from Aberdeen, I have recently moved from an E91 335d to a 2006 E53 X5 3.0d Sport Exclusive.

So far I'm liking it, I don't drive it very often as my other half uses it daily, first impressions were its utterly gutless, hardly surprising coming from a remapped 35d, but other than that its doing everything we need our family car to do, and it seems to tow well. All in all I really like it.

Plans include a swirl flap delete, remap, and getting the aux heating activated

Thanks

Martin

Good luck with finding any swirl flaps, X5's don't appear to have any.  Certainly aren't any on mine.

Get the X remapped and that'll help you feel better about it too.

Great family car, and a great cruiser too. :)

Hmmmm, it would be great if there are none fitted, I will need to check this further

Yes the remap is badly needing done, I will see to that in the coming months, as its rather gutless at the moment

Hello and Welcome..... :)

You can rest assured E53 3.0d versions of the X5 do not have Swirl flaps.

That is a long since confirmed fact so you are completely safe.  Members of this very forum contorted themselves to look for the dreaded metalwork and control systems and found no evidence.  Even the inlet manifolds have different numbers to this that are fitted with them - the part numbers that do have said beasties all come back 'not fitted to this vehicle'.

They are the one BMW vehicle of that era that is safe from that little horror, though the E70 X5 (and X6) version that replaced it do have them!  The E53 was never designed to meet anything better than Euro3 and for that they weren't needed.

Coming off a 335d I'm not surprised you are noticing the change!  Must be getting in for 750kg of extra weight and less horsepower/torque to play with.  The E53 is no slug, but it will feel it after you had the twin turbo.  Contact Jason (on this forum) about getting the mapping sorted... 8)

Welcome aboard........... :)

I have not driven a remapped 335d............I once read on another forum it was the fastest car in the world ;)

In all seriousness though there is of course a considerable difference in performance between the 2 vehicles.

Glad you like the X5 & hope it will proove to be decent transport for you & yours.

Thanks for the insight on the 335d AW8, I think the chaps on the PH forum have taken the 335d thing a tad far now, its certainly a lot faster than any diesel estate car has any right to be, it will be a car I will revisit in time I think.  :)
