btw its the continental drivers i find most annoying on the moterways, who don't know to drive on the left lane, stay in lane, etc..

That's a load of cr** !! I drive around 20,000 kms a year of which I come over to UK 4-6 times per year for 1wk at a time , and the worst drivers of all are the British .
The amount of time they hog the middle lane , or even all of them on the 4 lane section of the M25 is ridiculous . The number of times lane 1 is free , but 2 , 3 & 4 are clogged up is unbelievable . I even
remember a programme dedicated to a woman who refused to drive in any lane other than the middle .
They call themselves the 'middle lane club' or something like that . They must be very proud of themselves
being able to block up motorways for no reason .
From Lux to Chunnel is 485 kms on generally 2 lane m-way , it takes 3 1/4 hrs at a steady 140-150 kmh .
From Chunnel to Wolverhampton is 320 kms but last time I was over took me 4 3/4 hrs .
On the continent , they are generally 2 lanes and you're taught to only be in lane 2 when overtaking . If
you don't observe , then you can end up with a Porsche up your backside doing 260 kmh !!

I tend to agree with that, middle lane driving is terrible in the UK but I suppose that is due to bad driver training (i.e. non existent motorway driving training). Must be something else as well as I do not understand why you would think it is right to do it at all, training or not.
The worst continental driver country award must go to Belgium though, the things I see there ...

Re: 80mph Motorway Speed limit no longer considered
It all stems from the Slow, Middle and Fast lane mentality. I used to do 30K+miles per year Europe wide, Britain is definitely amongst the worst - lane discipline is terrible. Lack of training is definitely to blame!
On my last holiday, I dreaded coming back to the UK. As soon as you get on the M-way here is is mayhem and bedlam. Very stressful. >:(

i don't usually care about economy figures when i drive cos i drive very infrequently. my consideration is usually staying on the correct side of getting a fine!
so i'd certainly like the limit increased..
btw its the continental drivers i find most annoying on the moterways, who don't know to drive on the left lane, stay in lane, etc..

i dont care bout mpg really but at 80 i get 36mpg and at 100 i get about 17!!
