Adjusting rear hatch

Post by jonnyivy » Mon Sep 24, 2012 11:04 am

Hi,.. I'm still loving this motor,...must be the best I've ever owned by far.
I love it because its so silent when you drive it,..and I'm a perfectionist when it comes to detail, so if my wife has coins or empty coke tins 'rattling' about in the front trays I need to stop and have them removed !
I'm now getting annoyed because there has been a slight rattle coming from the rear hatch when I go over a bit of rough road,....sounds to me as if the door isn't closed properly,..but it definately is.
Its getting more frequent now, I had a tug at it a few days ago but cant get it to make the same noise as when driving.
Where do I start looking for adjustments,?...

Open the top hatch and look on either side, you'll see adjustable bump stops. Mark where they're at now, then adjust accordingly...

Try the adjusters for the hatch as Sanj has mentioned. Other thing may be the lower plastic panel that slides down on the lower hatch?

seen the adjusters today whilst the hatch was open. There's a small crosshead screw on each,...do I just slacken this then turn the rubber bump-stop to adjust ?
Its the middle of a torrential downpour up here and its to last all week. so I will do it when the rain stops

you need to adjust the bump stops so that when you shut the boot lid it will just grip a piece of paper, once this is correct open the boot and wrap some electrical tape around the lock catch in the bottom tailgate latch, you only need to go around this 2 to 3 times, and all will be silent.

I did this bit too. Works.

As for the bump stops, just unscrew until right - use Phill's paper tight as a gauge.

Silence is golden !

Done 'Phills' paper test and one side was way slacker than the other.
Adjusted the bump stop and took it for a test drive.

Isn't it just great to have a helpfull bunch of guys on a forum.......

Thanks to all above,

it's ok just send the Macallan whisky through the post, will PM my address :))

still worth wrapping electrical tape around the bottom latch bar aswell, I found that it can start to knock again in a week or 2
