getting bored....

Post by shadrack » Mon Sep 17, 2012 12:59 pm

As title I'm getting bored of the x5 now, had it for 18 months and done every mod possible, also before this x5 I had a 3.0i x5 for 2 years and after blasting around a lot in my mates m3 I'm itching for some serious power, I really want an e60 m5 but with the milage I'm currentl doing 500+ per week I can't justify it (however I'm desperately trying to get a job at the mine 2miles away so then could get one) so I'm toying in my head with selling the x5 and getting a 535d which I'm told can be mapped to 350+ bhp so could cure my need for power whilst maintaining a degree of economy...... Or I sell my beloved e30 for a diesl corsa etc and buy an e60 m5 instead of the x5, just wondering what anyones thaughts are especially if anyones had m5\535d?  Thanks

I had a 535d sport for 3 years and 65k , I found it a great car as a compromise between performance and economy but it never really set my pulse racing , I had the sport auto box with the paddle shift but it was less involving than a manual and the engine was impressive but not as characterful in tone as a V8 , ride was crashy as well on rft .

I've owned a lovely modded E60 530d and an E60 M5.

The 530d was superb and tbh I still miss the E60's as they are a superb design/build and the iDrive is again a great bit I kit. The 530d is practical, modable and very quick when mapped (535d even more so). I took the 530d to the Ring and it was superb. Handled brilliantly (it was sat on Koni/Eibach suspension and H&R rollbars...lol) and obviously economy is great. Not a massive amount to look out for (apart from the usual diesel engine items).

As for the M5........OMG the best motor I've ever owned with serious presence/performance and an engine to die for...lol. Practical but uneconomical really and don't own one without a seriously important AUC warranty. It does get through clutches too.

I'd definitely own another M5 when I can afford it.

I agree with Raj I have only driven one but yes an amazing engine but expensive to run on a daily basis but IMHO worth it.

Why do insurance companies do this?? I thaught ill just try an m5 and when they give me an astronomical price I can get them out of my head, but no, they quote me £910 per year...a lot you may think but I'm 27 and my x5 is £857 so me in a car worth more with more than twice the power is only £1 per week extra... Also an m3 is £1200 where is the logic? Ill try a 535d tonight and see what that comes in at!

That's coz every oik under the sun wants to nick an M3 innit!!  M5 is an old geezers car in comparison - from their viewpoint.  That and they probably run out of fingers at three because they need two to hold a beer or fag or benefits cheque innit.

No chance they can count to five. :)) :))
