thank you for this thread. I am in the process of booking car to get a fix. One dealership (and BMW customer service) confirmed there is another issue with my car (X5 feb 2011 built) - Programming control and this has to be done as well. For some reason my main dealer says it is same as Watchdog security issue shich apparently is not. They also told me key cannot be programmed to fold mirrors which is not true either...
Time to change dealer from Stephen James to Synther .....
The question I have though - does anyone know if this security fix will not allow future ECU remap by Jason ?

Not all versions can have the mirror fold programmed on the key by a Dealer. Whilst it is possible to have it done as the functionality is in the car, it's a 'Safety Issue' from BMW's viewpoint and most Dealers therefore will not do it (Mine won't even after being told the code line to change). You need to get into the car programming to make the change.

Not sure about future remaps but it will delete ones already on the car!

Has anyone found a way around that yet? I remember reading somewhere about a reference number in the system being incremented and if picked up by the Dealer would as you say, result in an erasure and overwrite......even if the ECU wasn't being touched by any mods/updates from BMW......meaning the map had to be re-applied. >:(

BMW have redesigned the cars so that the problem that previously allowed those in the know access to the car has gone away. A software 'fix' was also applied. You should be fine.

I've had a viper fitted to my 2013 E70. This disables the OBD port.
