water in boot

Had a problem pairing my phone with my 30d sport 06, after doing some web serching I located the bluetooth tcu in the boot where all the sat nav and auto changer equipment is fitted only to find it sitting in an inch of water  . lucky for me I took the unit apart dried it out and it now works fine.
Looks like this may be a common problem with the x5 but can any one tell me where the water is comeing in from please.

Check battery vented properly should be one vent hole connected to a properly attached vent tube - other end should be capped or otherwise covered.that would be my favourite suspected culprit. (Duct tape etc will do at a push).

Otherwise check vents in bottom of cubby holes aren't wedged with stored items. If that fails check tailgate seal rubber.

After some more investigation work with the water leak I have yet to find the problem, water does not appear around the light cluster or the battery houseing and while the car has been stood in the rain no more water has appeared in the boot. I have spoken with an x BMW mechanic who said water comeing in from the rear vents behind the bumper is sometimes a problem when those 20" tyres are spraying water under the car water can get in. My next step is to drive the car in heavey rain and see what happens will keep you posted.?

Ok.........stored items force vent flaps in cubby to open when driven in wet. Not had cose look to see eexactly how or if this compromises and causes water ingress but removing items sorted damp there for me.

Battery vent gasket rubber to tailgate not sitting right and leaking handle gasket have also caused me issues in past as has a leaking cluster seal.

That should keep you busy enough

I have a repair garage in Cardiff, all X5 leaks so far have been through tail gate lamps(rear fog), remove lamps and reseal, silicone is not advised.. I use a sealant which is very sticky, it's on a roll and it's used for bonding sunroofs etc.. Try to purchase from a windscreen fitting outlet..
