Been eventful couple of weeks

Post by graemeX5 » Sun Sep 02, 2012 7:50 pm

It certainly has the smart Brabus fortwo decide to play up two weeks ago, Friday night coming home, and cut out an not start again so cruised to side of road, tried to restart no good, and no mobile signal, had to walk 1/2 mile to get one tried AA but could not get signal kept fading so eventually phone wife said come and pick me up.

I went back to car thought I try it just in case and low an behold it started, so I drove it a bit further before it cut out on entrance to roundabout. Pushed it out of the way of other cars then pushed up on to verge. They may look small but pushing any car up a kerb they suddenly feel heavy, at his point I had a phone signal so rang wife to update her. So left car ther overnight.

Went back Saturday morning and it started first time but only got 3/4 of way to garage and it cut out, but my wife had taken a different route to me, in meantime the car restarted and i got to garage left it with them and wife took me home.

Later on saturday i took another X5 bumper to mates bodyshop to get painted and then organised for it to be fitted following week.

In meantime the Smart car was with garage so I looked on smart forum and came across similar fault - the TDC sensor or crank sensor so phoned garage on Wednesday and later that day they confirmed it was at fault and they ordered one from Mercedes and then had it ready to pick up on the friday night.

Then on Sunday decided to take TT out as sunny day and go to local car show at knebworth and guess what battery flat, must be just lucky. I had previously charged it up then left on trickle charge for a week and it was flat as pancake. So we didn't go to car show instead I looked on internet and batteries at Halfords were £117 inc £10 discount so looked on TT forum for battery and came across code for Eurocar parts with 25% off  a promising start.

So I tried discount code and hooray it worked so ordered battery and they were open on bank holiday Monday. I went to pick up monday and chap said order not worked so explained situation and he was helpful. It turned out it didn't work as they didn't have the 5yr battery in stock but had a 4yr one at £62 with discount and in stock -Result, 30mins later all fitted and car started first time hooray.

Then on Wednesday X5 went to mates bodyshop and had better bumper fitted and pick it up on wednesday night really pleased now the replacement bumper looks on car.

Oh yes and did I say whilst on holiday someone wanted to buy my X5 as he was looking for a 4.4 in black, a nice compliment. I did consider it, but as my wife said what would you do if you sold it? I replied buy another one possibly a 4.8 and then I would have to go throught that one and sort any faults like I have done so with the 4.4, so I decided not to go any further with offer.

Today we cleaned the wifes Astra and the smart car and tidied up the front garden. Now I only have to clean the X5 soon, then take pics of the fleet and post them up. So car wise its definitely been eventful and I'm now ready for a weekend off.
