Its all in French!

Post by E53X5Paul » Wed Aug 29, 2012 1:49 pm

Hi Guys

Wonder if you can help!

Recently had to change the battery as the old one was kn*@kered. Anyway once the new one was fitted I started up the car only to find that the info on the dashboard (operated by the BC button on the left stalk) is all in French!.

The centre display (sat nav, tv etc) is all ok and in English. I have tried the computer set up but there doesn't seem to be a way of changing the language! I cant find it in my hand book and thought I would ask people here first before I trawl through the net!

Its only a small issue but why French!! it could have at least been German!

Thanks

Paul

It should be in the separate OBC Manual.  For some reason the Nav & OBC are separate books.  I've been looking for a downloadable version....but it only talks about the Nav Language setting, not the OBC.... ???

Try this procedure though.....it's suggested as a way on XOutpost.....it might or might not work....

RESETTING THE BMW DASH LANGUAGE
The language is stored in the Coding Plug. This is located in chocolate-brown harness connector
on the back of the instrument cluster. After 2/89 this is a separate plug on the back of the cluster.
When the cluster is first powered up the language is normally German by default.
To change the language,
1. Ignition switch in the OFF position.
2. Press and HOLD the right instrument cluster button.
3. Turn the ignition switch to the on position.
4. Wait about 10 seconds. The next language will be displayed.
5. Hold the button until the desired language appears.

If this doesn't work then another suggestion is to disconnect the battery for 15 mins and try again, after that it may be a coding issue.

Its all in French!

Hi

I've had this problem before and it's something to do with the satnav CD.  Have you got the original sat nav CD or a generic one purchased from another source?  I'm asking as if it has the camera alerts on your nav you don't have a genuine copy and that's when you see problems like this.  I had this when I turned off my speed camera alerts and I could only get English when I turned them back on.  In the end I used my Resler interface to change the default languages so this wouldn't happen.  If you have camera alerts turn them on and you should see the change.  Let us know how you get on?

Sorry it's taken along time to get back to you all! Thanks Penny you are right, put camera alerts back on and everything now in English!

I don't have the device you mention, is it expensive to get? Is it worth having or should I just put up with the camera alert voice?

thanks again

Paul

Hi Guys,
First post on X drivers, and as I've found before, these forums, are just so full of information that you just can't find anywhere else !!!.

I have just had the same problem as E53X5Paul, with my car going all “Français”  >:( .  But your advise Penny worked fine, and now back to English, and Speed camera alerts on again.  :camera:

Thanks

Paul
