Diesel consumption

Post by threeshoes » Sat Jun 30, 2012 7:37 am

I've just filled my tank for the 3rd time since buying my xDrive23d and I am most impressed: 40mpg from a 200hp engine is pretty good.  It must be a light car.  And the BC is showing accurate mpg.

However, I'm under no illusions about the aerodynamic qualities of the front end of these cars and I'm not expecting much from prolonged use at 70-80mph, especially with a headwind.

Not bad at all.  And it will be getting better as the engine loosens up.

200bhp eh!  It wasn't many years ago and engines of that size had trouble hitting 100bhp, and the economy wasn't far off the same figures you now have.

True.  I had a Mercedes CLK 230K in 1998 which had only 195bhp; it was quite a heavy machine so the poke wasn't that good.  Lovely machine, though.

You have 8 pots to fill, don't you :)  I do keep forgetting that mine's a 4x4, though.  My Mercedes ML270 never got above 35mpg.

Too be fair though the ml270 can't really be compared to an x1 its more e53 x5 equivilent which makes 35mpg very good!

Thats a really good figure, at 1,500kg kerb weight its almost 1/2 a tonne lighter than my X3 which has settled at around 24mpg in town.

Always nice to get good economy, so oftern we get less than we expect. I averaged 38mpg in my Honda CR-V, which is good compared to the offical combined figure of 42mpg. I normally see a difference of around -20% on the combined figure.
