3.0d cranking taking longer....
Re: 3.0d cranking taking longer....
Not necessarily.
Our E60 had iirc, two or three glow plugs away and ran it till we sold it, without any troubles.
They tend to make firing up harder and thus the turning over longer

Agreed but Blo2was was saying that it happens on a warm start but not on a cold....strange!

Surely that glow plugs wouldn't be an issue if engine warm??? Serviced very recently with new oil filter, air filter, oil etc, no plugs though!! Any ideas??

Tis indeed...missed the bit about only when warm.
Wondering if the alarm problems have been sorted now, with the battery having been replaced...

Note to self: Don't buy a car from drb5
Just kidding mate, I just try to sort known problems out as soon as they arise or they could have a knock on effect on other components and cost more in the long run...

Lol, i know i know.
It was actually the opinion of our local garage to leave them till we actually HAD a problem. They were found when it was plugged in to check a flat spot, which turned out to be a MAF....this WAS replaced.
We've lernt over the years, unless there is a definate problem which you can't live with, then you fix it. Too many others things go wrong when disturbing bits.

Re: 3.0d cranking taking longer....
I reckon it could be to do with the rail pressure control at start mate perhaps a sensor!

I've been watching this post and I didnt think it would be the battery. As for what it is I'm not sure either. When did you last have the engine serviced/filters changed ? may something as simple as that.
Thats handy to know after the battery has been purchased
Yea I know but I'm no expert, he would still of got one

Re: 3.0d cranking taking longer....
Had the same a while back and it was an injector problem, leak off excessive causing low rail pressure during cranking. Get a code reader and see if "RAIL PRESSURE LOW DURING CRANKING" is shown. It is then a case of diagnosing the offending injector with a fuel leak off test.
Hope this helps.

Garage think all signs point to an injector. Reckon best thing to do is live with it until I start getting a misfire etc at idle, then perform leak test to find offending injector, then replace. The cost to test injectors is 35 pound each, 6 need testing before you start otherwise!!!
