Bigger turbo :))

Post by AldoG420 » Sat Aug 18, 2012 8:56 pm

Hey guys , might sound strange but is it possible to upgrade the turbo on a 3.0d ? Thx , either bigger turbo or just setting up the existing one ?

A remap from Jason would possibly be the best choice?

Is there anywhere in Guernsey that you would be able to even make boost with a bigger turbo :)

You could have the wheels, rotors and bearings upgraded and keep the original body so that it all fits with no issues. I would recommend that it was remapped after this though to make sure that the fuel mix is correct.

Its interesting but why do you want to uprate your Turbo?

Hey, I like the car but could do with a bit more boost in it .. Just find it bit sluggish as I pull out of junctions.. An u right about guernsey but when I put my foot down , by the time the turbo fully opens I got to slow down for the corner :-) an yes I no .. It's a suv not a racing car.. But next year I'm entering charity sprint, an the charity hill climb an it's all for a good cause!! An I want to beat the range rover sport that enters lol

as said above, i'd suggest the ecu remap route. u can gain more power without messing around with the turbo.

have a look in here. if there's still no place close to you i believe you can even get it done without visiting him.

i'm highly tempted to do this myself,.. after i get my current niggles sorted i guess..

HI Guys
Its sounds like a remap will be your best bet, as advised by the other members. The X is a little hesitant on the uptake when you floor it from a standing start, other members who have had a remap by Jason say that this is overcome with the new map.
Jason can send out a remap tool for you to upload your original map via the OBC port, email him the file, he alters the map, returns via email you downlload it to the car, sorted then return the tool to Jason and he will refund your deposit. Costs £250 I think for the remap  50 BHP gain 100 NM torqe gain Better MPG
Im going for it soon
Also bigger turbos cause very bad turbo lag, so would make things worse, like mitsushi Evo's, got to keep them revving to get turbos spinning, thats why BMW Bi turbos have one small turbo and one large so the small one spins earlier so not to get turbo lag

If you want power pulling out of junctions then a bigger turbo will definitely not solve this... it will only create more lag because you won't be pushing enough exhaust gas to spool the turbo to full boost until higher in the rev range...

I wonder if you can fit the manifold and turbos from a 535d? It has a smaller turbo which gives you low down boost until the larger turbo spools up.

Best thing to do is definitely a remap! Much cheaper than messing with the mechanical side of things and changing turbos, manifolds etc and still have to do a remap.
