Damage from hailstones

Post by mogsyman » Sun Aug 05, 2012 7:43 pm

Hi guys

In the South of France and just experienced the worst hail storm I've ever seen.

I suspect the 7 week old X5 is written off :(

Not a single panel aside from the plastic front wings escaped and it's looking very sad for itself :(

We have a new car replacement policy but I'm just hoping they honour it!

Ah well, better have some more vino and chalk that one up as an experience I'll remember for a while.

Damage from hailstones

They have already said they'll cover it, we have to have an inspection when we get back and go from there.

Every panel aside from one door and the plastic wings have dents :(

Wow!  That's not good!  At least it's likely to be covered though.  I know the water damage we had to the house earlier this year was classed as 'storm' rather than this so called 'act of god' myth!

Hope the rest of the trip is rather less dramatic.

Thanks all :)

I'm not going to let it spoil the holiday - looking on the bright side the kids could have been hurt and they're ok. They were very scared but ok.

The car can can be fixed, I just hope it doesn't need a total re-spray with lots of body panels, it'll never be the same :(

Not only were they like golf balls, they didn't break when they hit the ground, they just bounced!

Apparently they are travelling at somewhere around or in excess of 90mph!

At least all the glass held..... :ok:  That would have been much less pleasant!.  As said, no one hurt, car still driveable - although it does look a little battle scarred now, holiday can continue. :)

We were at our gite at the time in the pool when suddenly.......and the rest is history.

If I'd been driving I'm not sure what I would have done TBH.

Crikey

Happened to a friend on his E70 V8

They almost wrote it off and said the only thing that saved it was because he had a roof box on and therefore it saved most of the roof!!!

That is bad !!!

Sorry to hear that, only been in that in France once as a child and we drove the car into a barn to avoid the damage.

Must have been very dangerous if you had walked through it though as it would be like being stoned :(

The owners son living next door was hit on the head by one, it knocked him over and he broke his arm.

He's a 6ft US Navy Helicopter pilot so by no means small and weedy!
