Re: installing dynavin into my E53
Hi
I recently fitted the same unit to mine.
When I puchased the unit I was under the impression of simple plug and play. Unfortunately not so simple. The existing cage on the car seams part of the dash (or at least part of the dash would need dismantled to remove).
The cage that comes with the Dynavin is useless, there is no way it fits and must be only for the E39. When fitting I cut the back out of the existing cage and slotted the new unit into place

hi gareth, thanks for the reply, thought i was losing the plot..just checking ,when you cut the back out of the existing cage ,do you mean the lower (deeper part) ..did u slide the unit in through the existing aperature. If i slide the dynavin in , it drops in but doesnt sit square in the dash, if you know what i mean...lol

I had the same issue when fitting my Hualingan unit.
John at car-vision cut out sections of the cage to get it to physically fit, but I wasn't happy with how it sat, it just didn't look right.
The next day I had to take a hacksaw to the remainder of the cage and cut out the entire thing, then it sat flush.
I also fitted the two metal brackets that came with it to secure it further, this was a major PITA to do but vital imo if you want a decent looking finish.
If you think about it, there's not much point in only cutting out sections of the dash, it's not like you can re-fit the tape deck again, you may as well cut out the whole lot.
This is pretty much how it sat when the cage was partially cut: (You can see it kind of overhangs the 'lip' of the dash)
This is how it sat after I cut out the whole lot:

Re: installing dynavin into my E53
Will be interesting to see what way you fit yours as the above pics have a bracket but with the Dynavin you don't. So without the bracket it will be harder to get sitting right

Re: installing dynavin into my E53
Hi, I did the same . 2006 X5. Purchased a E39a Dynavin, and the instructions sounded so easy, loosen 2 screws and remove the old radio carrier.
It took me 2 hours of sawing and cutting out of the dash to try and get their bracket to fit, got there in the end, wasn't happy though with the overall lack of proper instruction, even had to guess where to drill 2 holes to hold their bracket in place.
Fantastic unit though, now I have got it set up. Not a job for the faint hearted.

Re: installing dynavin into my E53
I was just thinking of buying this Dynavin, there website makes it appear to be avery polished product and simple install.
I do not want to cut out my dash. Dynavin need to sort this out IMO, the cost is high enough to warrant a product of the highest quality that should install easily.

Re: installing dynavin into my E53
Hi folks, I have asked about this before, can I fit one of these units to my 2001 4.4 that has the original "business" cassette/radio and computer readout.
If so which is the best unit to buy and will all the other bits in the dash work OK?
The original readout has the usual missing pixels and rather than shell out for a new one or a repair that will eventually do the same I would rather get a decent unit.
Cheers Col.
I don't mind having a go at the cutting to fit but I'm not sure about the electrical side of things or the computer.

Re: installing dynavin into my E53
Hi Yes it can be fitted but you lose your OBC functions, I fitted the Dynavin D99 android system which has OBC functions built in but to be honest its not much use as it cant be reset (or at least I havent figured out how too), Another option is to wire the OBC into the glovebox if you want to retain this

Re: installing dynavin into my E53
Hi Frontman
I have fitted the Dynavin E39A (win CE ) D99 into my 2006 3.0D , they are compatable with all E53 X5's
the wiring is a 5 minuite job, just unplug the old radio unit and MID and remove.
The original radio cage is part of the dash, and needs to be cut out, when I was cutting away I was in a panic that if this didnt fit I was in the S##T.
I cut it all away to fit the supplied bracket !!!!
I eventually sussed where to drill the two holes to secure the bracket ( 10mm above the trim securing points. Thats the silver or wood facia trim removable pieces.
Plug in the adaptor harness, 40 pin face lift or 11 pin pre facelift.
Push in to fit. there is a canbus module to plug in to the harness to comunicate with the steering wheel controls. I extended the 5 small wires from the unused MID/OBC unit to the glove box so I could reset the OBC/ consumpt 1 + 2 and binacle time and date
The Satnav maps now come fully loaded, there is USB and I phone cable to connect my Iphone and charge it, thats in the ash tray, neetly stashed when not needed.
I ran the Satnav aerial from the top of windscreen back to the headunit easily.
The bluetooth phone microphone can be run the same way. The can bus picks up the signal from the PDC sensors and shows a car picture on the screen, with radar lines showing how close and which sensor it is.
Well worth the bother.
