Annual Insurance Renewal - Best Companies to try??

Post by CondorX5 » Thu Jul 26, 2012 9:46 am

Just renewed my 4.8is with Saga ( I know I know) for £391.79.  I thought it was expensive and looked about in vain for a cheaper quote :). Reading your lot of quotes I guess I am lucky!

That's pretty good from them.  My quote last November was £1,200!!  Perhaps having a younger (a lot lless than 50 anyway) wife affected me badly..... :-[ >:D :))

mine's around £1k, and i'm now the proud owner of 3 new points for speeding (a mistaken 50mph camera) which will potentially make it worse this time

Final price that i am going for £593
that with £300 total excess protected no claims, cortoucy car, use for social domestic, comuting and use for my business

that seems like a good deal for me at 32 compared to what some people on here have to fork out

still feel like at 32 i should be paying bout 400 notes

that was with swift cover even tho internet based do have a call center so i am happy i can talk to someone if i need to

also i used money super market, go compare and tiger.com to get quotes and same companys through each of these sites all give different prices even tho information they have is exactly the same and even going direct to the indevidual companys it is cheaper to get through the sites they must have a deal going with the comparative web sites

glad that is over for another year
hope every one else has some luck finding reasonable quotes

A little article from Confused dot com makes interesting (and depressing) reading.  Bradford seems to be a 'problem' area for car drivers, as do some other Northern parts as well as East London.

Mrs X5Sport just saved £120 by leaving Admiral and returning to Sheila's Wheels for the Mini.  £300 FC.  Aviva quoted £370.

OK then as the X5 had a Thatcham Class 1 approved Alarm/Immobiliser for the UK market fitted as standard does anyone know what BMW named the system?
Example include:- BMW 3G.EWS, BMW system 3G, BMW UK EWS IV/DWA etc etc etc????? :)

I've never been asked by any insurer to name the system for a car, I have seen it for a BMW Motorbike though.  I always choose factory fitted Thatcham 1.  Which insurers want to know that level of detail?

See if it's listed against you car options by following the instruction from Post #4 onwards here:  Car Spec Thread

Looking at Realoem for parts against my old one's VIN, I can only find reference to the EWS IV system.  That most likely means you have a BMW UK EWS IV which at least matches part of one of your examples.  The alarm modules don't have any 'codes' similar to the type you give as examples, just part numbers and a basic description..... :(

The X6 alarm is contained within a number of modules with only the siren listed separately......helpful!  I'm not even sure a Dealer would know the answer to that one.

1st Central have a drop down so as to identify the security systems on the vehicle, and as there's numerous BMW types and the X5 system was fitted as standard I thought someone may know. They do also have the "unknown" listed which I've clicked for now. 1st Central came back withe a price of £460 for all the belts and whistles and only £350 vol. excess, may be the winner??? but will continue to look until the deadline.

OK then eye's down for a full house..... the results are in.
as I previously mentioned, Although the X5 is insured by the wife, but I'm the legal Owner and Main Driver.
So this is what I found.
Lv Frizzell was £607.11, Direct Line was £516.22, 1St Central was £540.61, and SwiftCover was £548.88,
Although you definitely have to make the time and read all the small print with the insurance companies, as the slightest deviation could leave you up the creak without a paddle.....
I got to be honest Direct line covered it all unit I noticed that the wife (policy holder) had to be the main driver and more important the legal owner of the vehicle, so I rang them to see where I we stand with me being the owner and main driver. Initially they said as I was the spouse it shouldn't make any difference, but they would run through the quote with me, after getting the wife's permission, just to make sure. Yeah right, they now wanted an additional £96.15 just because I was the legal owner and main driver...... DIRECT LINE
All these policies covered the so called Modification of Tinted Windows
Swiftcover  - I've used this company before and I found them to be OK, but running through the small print (mods. to car) they won't cover the front most windows (drivers & passengers windows) being tinted, OK could take a chance, but at the end of the day, it's not worth even thinking about it, well that me anyway.
So not even hearing of 1St Central until a week or so ago, I've decided to go with them, they came in with a good price (£540.61) and the policy covers everything and what's better my vol. excess is only £200.
All I can say now is time will tell......
