Door wont open!

Post by DougieV8 » Fri Jul 20, 2012 12:49 pm

Hi , i did try a search but nothing specific found.

My passenger front door has decided not to open from outside or inside - not ideal at all but MOT looming which means a fail!

Any help greatly appreciated - can i get the door card off in closed position? Likely cause a snapped cable or broken fixing?

Handles ok inside and out - lock button still popping up and down ok and can be operated from internal handle.

Sorry for posting this twice but looking for as much help as possible!

this is a common problem on the E53, what typically tends to happen is the 'cradle' of the outer door handle which is inside gives way. search this forum there are ppl who have done this DIY.

Not having got mine anymore to check what the seals and seats block, but does this procedure from the TIS offer any help at all?

I don't know how much is possible with the door closed but this might give some clues that could at least enable you to get far enough to be able to open the door and then do the rest.

Door wont open!

We had exactly the same problem when we were away with the caravan so had no tools or anything. Ended up having to get an indie to do it, needed to replace the whole lock assembly. Only 25 quid from a breakers tho.
Hope u get it sorted.

Sorted now  :) thanks for comments and help.

I managed to get door card off ok with a bit of care and brute force. One broken push clip and two bent were only casualties! All back together no problem.

As Steve suggested there was no damaged parts or real issues with mechanism, just needed a good bit of lubrication and all fine now.

Just a point to note - this happened when I tried to open the car via passenger door while locked, internal mechanism must have opened up and got jammed as car locked. When it was then unlocked the levers were not doing their job as all jammed open although door clicked shut around pillar peg! Does that make sense?

Cheers
Dougie

I have had the same problem but with both my rear doors. I was able to remove the door card on the passenger side rear and discovered that the lock/unlock mechanism is not picking. When it was connected on a diagonosis computer the problem said to be the relay but the relay is far to reach and it is connected on a circuit board with other relays. The car is an 06 3.0D Sport

could this just be false reporting or is there anything i should try ?
Any help will be much appreciated.
