3.0sd versus 40d any real difference

Hi,

I am looking to get either a 09 plate 3.0sd or a 10 plate 40d
I know there is about 15 BHP and 15 torques difference as well as the 8 spd gearbox, but is there any noticeable difference when driving them?

I have driven the previous shape X3 3.0sd and know how quick that car is, but it is a lot lighter.

In a word - YES

The 40d version is much smoother in terms of power delivery, and is more economical to run.  Emissions are lower so the VED rate is two bands lower too.

On board electronics such as the iDrive are the later version on the 40D so have more functions and buttons on the controller.

What about performance then?

Slightly better economy wise, but do you notice any performance difference?

Only about 0.5 sec quicker, but it 'feels' much faster than that because the power delivery is so effortless.  The gear changes are very quick and not as noticeable, hence it just feels non stop from 0 to  :-[

I just found that I felt the 40d was the better choice.  And it's a choice I don't regret at all...

hi drove both versions and theres no comparrison power with the 40d and 8 speed box is vastly different so bought one
