Airbag warning light, again

Post by garethdeb » Thu Jul 05, 2012 2:43 pm

Hi guys
Always had my x serviced by my local Indy German specialist who is excellent. He recently sorted the front passenger door handle and reset the airbag warning light but a couple of months later it's back on.
I've read about these scanners which you plug in and it tells u where the fault is, my question is will it tell me where the airbag fault is specifically? If so where and what cost are the scanners as it seems a handy bit of kit to have.
Cheers all
Gareth

Ebay has them.

This is the kit, takes about 10 days from china.

It'll describe  the error, for example.

Reoccuring air bag light faults on most cars are caused by bad connections on t.he cable connections under the drivers or passenger seats ( leading to the seatbelt tensioner ) , these can be triggered by simply moving the position of the seat.
If you purchase a can of solvent contact cleaner, and split the connectors and give them a spray, let the solvent dry, then reconnect. VAG's need the error codes removing to reset the light, but BMW's dont.
I have had to do this on several of our family cars in the last few years .
I have just noticed that the scanner from China comes with an impressive CD Rewritable CD.
Might as well contact a member who has got a copy, and get them to send you one.

Airbag warning light, again

Just a quick one on this guys. My X has been remapped which I love. There isn't any danger of losing the remap with this scanner is there?
Cheers

Shouldn't be if you are just resetting warnings and service intervals, etc.

Just don't try messing with anything to do on the mapping side of the engine management.
