My scam from earlier in the week was an Amazon.com one. I have never bought from the .com site, only .co.uk and when I looked at the URL to "track" my purchase, it sure was not an Amazon URL.

i've had this sort of thing from ebay/paypal, except - it wasn't!
a paypal email, nicely formatted with paypal logos and images and stuff was sent, only on closer inspection it was sent from a bogus email address!! paypal had nothing to do with it!

I have also noticed on an ever growing number of these that the screen scrape clearly says at the bottom in the 'How do I know this is genuine?' FAQ, that almost universally the genuine website page says we will always address you in person by name......and the scammers without fail put 'Dear Valued Customer' at the start but leave the rest of the page completely intact.....Doh!! FAIL.
I use a utility called Mailwasher Pro that sits between my systems and the ISP email servers and it checks the mail remotely - nothing is downloaded - so that I can check before calling the mail thus preventing anything getting through. Outlook is also set to only work manually so it never checks for mail automatically which is how so many get through. I also have the 'Reading Pane' set to Off in all folders as that stops any payloads from executing.
