Hi
Has anyone fitted one of these? If so, where from?
There is a company in the states (www.5seater.com) which has been posting a lot on other forums recently - they do a kit for $450 and have photos showing a seat belt holding a baby seat that appears to be using the isofix connections.
There is also one advertised on Ebay from Greece?
Anyone had any experience or researched this before?
Thanks
Jeremy

5th Seat
Re: 5th Seat
Hi, When I was looking for my current x6 I did have a look at one that had the 5th seat conversion done and it had a full seatbelt fitted. It looked a nice tidy job, I have thought about getting this done on mine but as they only seem to be from abroad I am a little hesitant. There is only 3 of us so we don't need the extra seat normally but there has been a couple of times it would come in handy

Re: 5th Seat
You may find that the bodyshell already has a hard point for the lower mounts, but the backrest may not have the mounts for the seatbelt reel as there is a different part number for that version.
Mine only has Isofix on the left and right seats, there is nothing for the centre, and no blanked off hole in the back of the backrest to allow one to be installed. But when mine was built (Oct 2010) there was no 5-seat option. That came in during 2011 - might have been MY2012 onwards. I think it was around April/May 2011.
If you go for a 4-seater which may not have the necessary hardpoints (or even reinforced catches to keep the seat back from collapsing) then that might mean you fall foul of the safety rules for UK Cars as the belt needs to be correctly installed and an inertia reel type from Sept 1999. Lap belts are only permitted in the Centre Front seat, not the rear one. That could be why no retrofit kit appears to be available from BMW, and the only kits you have found are from outside the UK.
You would also need to check the Registration Document as mine states number of seats = 4. How you go about declaring a car as a 5-seater I don't know (at which point you'll need to comply with all the required seatbelts anyway). If you need 5 seats you might very well be better off buying a 5-seater anyway.
Not an easy mod by the looks of things.....

Never anthropomorphise computers. They hate that.
