Agonising Issues - Help
Re: Agonising Issues - Help
Good luck with it. Hopefully these will get you back on the road.
Re: Agonising Issues - Help
Theres an error logged on the ECU for a misfire right?
See what cylinder is logged on the diagnostic test as misfiring (assuming the garage provided this info), and swap the coil pack with another cylinder and see if the error moves along.
As for not kicking down after gearbox oil change, possible low fluid level?
Sounds like you just need a specialist to look at your problem, i reckon you'd do good to call a few local to you and see if they're willing to have a look for you.

Just a quick update on mine Tim. It would seam that the respected technition who diagnosed my blown head gasket is a.... well, we wont going any further on that matter except to say its not blown. I have now changed all the plugs, put in a second set of Bosch coils, as the first set of pattern items kept failing. De-catted - one was breaking up and fitted new O2 sensors. The missfire is still present. Now I say missfire, but further research has led me to suspect the torque convertor. I read a fair few posts now on a couple of other forums and the 4.4 and 4.6s do have a reputation for eating convertors. Symtpoms manifest as a shudder at 40 - 60mph typically as the convertor goes in and out of lock. A simple test is to drive in sport mode as this prevents torque convertor lock up...... Anyway, to this end I have mine booked in at a auto trans specialist next week for tests. Watch this space.

OK then Tim.
You've had a couple of hours now since you finished work (presuming you finished at 5)
So have you got it sorted? All fixed now?

Re: Agonising Issues - Help
Well garage called today, then have out the alternator on and the battery light is still on, so not happy with that.
The new cat going in tomorrow, next steps see if battery light goes out with engine running fine, fingers crossed it does.
Will also look to fully charge battery overnight see if that cures it, The battery light only came on when an independent changed the automatic transmission fluid, it's now had 3 different alternators refurbished....is there a reason why battery light would come on after fluid change?
Failing that If it doesn't I will be selling it for parts.
Seriously had enough of it.

Re: Agonising Issues - Help
Garage called just now,
The Catalytic Converter supplied does not fit the model, not type approved.
How hard is it !, you get the serial number, you get the full vehicle details.
They got asked to double check as this is what happened last time.
Furious....does not even come close.
Garage are now having to re-manufacture the Catalytic Converter into the existing pipe.

Oh dear - not good but light can be seen at end of tunnel!
Is battery light on all the time? Mine flickers on tickover but dissapears with some revs. My mechanic reckons tick over probably a few hundred revs too low but no issues so not a problem.

Re: Agonising Issues - Help
Catalytic Converter now fitted
The car now runs perfectly...........sweet as a nut....and kicksdown and sounds incredible
I'm now nearly there after months of agony !
The battery light is still on, could this be due to the car not been ran for a while?
New alternator on, car has done very limited miles in 6 months, however a new battery was fitted 6 months ago.
and here she is
Thanks for all the replies to date !

Re: Agonising Issues - Help
Just a thought outside the box regarding the alternator warning lamp , if its charging the battery ok ( presume this has been checked by now) carefuly check all of the fuses as I seem to remember coming across this problem in the past on a 3 series with a blown fuse relating to the oil level sensor and the alternator warning lamp.Cant recall fuse number but a very easy no cost check to go through all of the fuses.
Might be of no use but just a thought .
Cheers
ps glad it now runs ok.
