Hi all, I have a 2008 E70 3.0sd and I believe that I have "SWIRL FLAPS"???
Mate of mine has just brought a 525 and he also has the swirl flaps and keeps banging on about getting the changed/removed and has now got me worried?!?!?
The poor girl has done 72000k now and I also just wandered if there is any additional servicing that needs doing to the X other than the book stuff - oil, pads etc etc....

Swirl Flaps and Other Service Features
Re: Swirl Flaps and Other Service Features
The E53 version of the 3.0d didn't (although it was probably the only car with that version of the M57 engine not to have them). Looks like they were re-introduced on the E70.......
All the diesels now have them.....though I hope the design is safer now. It was the earlier versions pre July 2005 that were more likely to fail as the flap was held to a spindle shaft with metal fixings. The designs were modified in July 2005 with an all plastic flap design and by 2008 they should have got it right! I haven't seen any reference to the later versions being a problem. The 'at risk' period is generally regarded as 2000-2006 (engine stocks had to be depleted even though the mod arrived in 2005).

Never anthropomorphise computers. They hate that.
