Specification on a 2009 X6

Post by jeremy » Wed Jun 20, 2012 8:57 am

Hi there.

I'm looking at purchasing an X6, probably one registered mid 2009.  I am trying to establish what is included in the spec and what is not.  I have an October 2010 pricelist but can't find an earlier one.  So my question is:

Automatic tailgate - is this standard on a min-2009 car?  An extra?  Included in a pack?  Not available?
USB interface - is this included in the Media pack?

Thanks in advance for any answers you can give me

There are differences between the se versions and the m sports.

I dont know if the X6 had a 2010 LCI change or not.  Probably best to assume that as a BMW it will come with 4 wheels an engine a steering wheel and a basic stereo  :)  everything else will be an extra

Best to look on the BMW approved site and just have a look at the cars and specs and judge from there

Im assuming one of the few x6 owners will come along........especially X5sport who has an x6 and far too much time on his hands  8)

X6 has only just got the LCI version as of this month.  I haven't seen one yet.  Unlike the X5, the X6 doesn't come in 'trim packs'.  The options are a choice of powertains - two petrol 3.0i and 50i (which is a 4.4 turbo) and two diesel 30D and 35D (which is the twin turbo on a 3.0D).  Almost everything else will be an (expensive) option - as suggested!

The biggest change between intro and now was in 2010 (from April build) with the introduction of the 40D (replaced the 35D) and the arrival of the standard 8-speed auto in place of the thirstier and less efficient (emissions etc wise) 6-speed.  Other things arriving in 2010 were the latest version of the iDrive and ability of the nav system to store music on an internal hard drive, plus bigger screen and DVD playback when stationary.

I think all versions came with a powered tailgate as standard, it was a later addition to the E70 X5.  I have never seen an X6 without one.

There should be a single USB interface with the media pack but the 'Smartphone Integration' which also adds full USB from the phone cradle is an extra.

Best thing to do is as suggested and talk to a Dealer as there are so many options and combinations in these packs and they change every year.

HTH once you get more info and need to ask etc etc.

Thanks X5Sport.
The car I am in the process of purchasing is a March 09 35d and I am told (just) by the dealer that it has neither a powered tailgate or a USB interface!  It does have the media pack

I am slightly disappointed but if cars pre October 2010 (for which I have the pricelist) didn't have USB interface or powered tailgate then I have to live with it!

I watched the Fifth Gear review of an 08 X5 on Youtube yesterday and that didn't have a powered tailgate.

Well you learn summat new every day.  Never seen one of those without a powered tailgate, and the one I tested (35D) had one too.  I wonder when that arrived then... ???

I had a USB in my Media Pack too..... ???

I'm guessing they added it when they updated the Nav system?  Mid to late 2010?

Cars built for model year 2011, so April 2010 onwards.  I'm sure the Dealer said that they always came like that, but then, he was a 'salesperson!'.. :o

We have some 2008/9 X6 owners on here, so maybe they can solve that mystery.... ;)

I know on the X5 the USB interface was an option, isnt the powered boot just something else to go wrong ;)

Must have pretty good gas lift supports if it is unpowered as it's a big piece of metal & glass... :o

Squeaky, you have a very poor viewpoint on these cars....almost bordering on cynical. :P :)) :))

Jeremy, are you looking at BMW AUC or are your sourcing elsewhere?

Fyi Parkers used to allow you to see all specs f.o.c. you now pay £1.99 per day for unlimited use.  You can then see exactly what the original spec was year on year.

Changes obviously occur without LCI sometimes for each MY (manufacturing year) & sometimes during same.

I have a 2009 X6 dealer brochure nex to me and no mention of power tailgate.

Squeaky - Looking at BMW AUC.  In fact now put a deposit down on a nice 09/09 Space Grey 35d with lots of toys.  The only extra it didn't have that I really wanted was Sun protection glass so now I need to get some tints done.

AW8 - Any mention of Aux-in on your 2009 brochure?? Trying to understand what options there are for my iPhone.  I had the ipod interface installed in my 650 instead of the changer and am thinking I may remove that and put it in the X6.  Although it wasn't a great solution, it is a way of being able to control the ipod with the steering wheel.

There is a retrofit kit for USB.  No idea on actual cost, or if you can DIY easily - depends on own ability.  It says 2.5 hours to fit, depending upon existing options already installed.

Kit No: 65410444937

Installation Guides: EBA 2146524 and 2210830 which your Dealer can email you.  That will at least give you an idea as to what route to take.  I have a copy of the first one and it mentions an 'Audio Jack - no longer required' as an item to be removed.

Thanks X5Sport

The dealer would email me installation guides?  Why would they do that?

Does anyone know if the USB interface on an 09 X5 is different to the ipod interface (which replaces the changer) in an 07 650 (which is branded Alpine and basically makes the ipod appear as a changer with the different 'discs' being sort by playlist, artist, album etc and can't cope with really long lists (it just stops)) !
