I really, really don't like FB nor Twitter as I don't agree with the invasion in privacy. It amazes me that people are happy to post that their house is empty for two weeks as they are going away, or post pictures in compromising positions in areas they should not be in.
Re the FB shares - the wrong people bought them, i.e. users of FB who like it. They missed the point that valuing a company at 100 times the profit is a bit odd as normally that is about 3 times the profit level. Mugs for buying the shares I would say but those people should not mingle in the stock market if they don't understand the workings of that.
I am not an expert either, but I don't buy anything that I don't understand and buying shares in a company that has no real profit future is total madness to me.
Twitter is even weirder to me as I really don't get this every movement posting routine. Scary stalking

Not a great fan of FB or twitter however as far a shares are concerned I am not sure it is all that clear cut. They generate revenue through advertising and the actual equity behind a share seems less and less relevant nowadays (which could explain why the world of finance got in a bit of trouble a few years back trading stuff they did not fully understand...)
Still was money to be made there.
Thinking about the initial IPO for Apple ... I wished I'd bought some at that time.
