Time to pick your brains if I may.

I will be holidaying in France a bit later in the year and  I have RAC cover for the UK but I would like a good level of European breakdown cover just in case.

Ideally, I would like a degree of parts and labour coverage as apparently X5's can be a bit pricey to fix . It would be my only trip so single trip cover is fine.

Any sensible suggestions would be appreciated thank you

Probably find your best bet will be to get some form of pack including recovery to the UK and a loan car.  As your title suggests, you might need some form of warranty to cover all the parts and labour otherwise I would have thought.  The AA offer something as a bolt on to their assistance cover, albeit with a fairly low limit.

If the RAC isn't right then BMW's own service is provided by Mondial so at least with them being a Euro wide company that might be a point in their favour.

On a trip to France back in March in a Hire Van I had an issue with the RAC. It started by the VW Transported giving up the ghost just outside Tours.

Lost drive after pulling away at a set of lights. Anyway rang the hire company in the UK as the number they provided didn't connect. The long and the short of it was that the vehicles cover had been jiust renewed but hadn't been flagged up for Euro cover. This took 6 hours to sort with me sitting at the side of the road board out of my mind. When it did get sorted I was told that I would only be towed to a garage and would have to sort my own onward transport out. Had I just need a car then no problem but the van was full and this was now 1.30am.

The hire company weren't happy either and ended up paying £1500 to have the van dropped to Caen (for which I drove the recovery vehicle most of the way as the driver kept falling asleep  ) 

Make sure what ever cover you get INCLUDES repatriation or you'll be in for a huge bill and a whole load of hassle!!!

The RAC comprehensive European cover doesn't offer any parts or labour above the £300 roadside, but full repatriation for vehicle and passengers. They will tow to an approved garage where after 12 hrs if not fixed you get an overnight stay and or a hire car.

The AA cover costing about £40 odd more gives a whopping £500 parts and labour at the garage on top, plus up to 3 claims per trip as well as £1200 onward travel if unfixable with full repatriation too.

So the AA is the better cover, just wondered if anyone had any other options or experiences.

I will look at the BMW one now.

Have you tried your Insurance co. ? I looked at single trip cover many years ago and found that my Ins Co. quote was the same for 1 year as for 2 weeks via the AA. Worth a go
