Make sure you get rid of the cookies. I had to change the cookie name a while back so you could have conflicts. That said, I am running Safari/Chrome/FF and I have tested shutting down all browsers and going back to the site and I didn't have to logon on any of them.
Also, make sure you click the stay logged in check box else you'll be logged out after 1h of inactivity

Re: Forum upgrade
Cookies and caches cleared for site:
Firefox 12 - not remembering log in status, password incorrect on first attempt but accepts it second time. Also using the tick in the login box to keep login.
IE9 - works
IOS5.1 - logs out when changing sites and coming back.
Will try again.
EDIT - IE9 still OK, IOS and FF12 not. Both report password errors the first time but then log in OK. Change sites and it logs out even with a 'Forever' option. Was OK until a few mins ago.

mmm, bit odd that, not touched the site in a while now... just fired up my iPhone (IOS 5.1.1) and loaded the site in Safari... logged in from front page... went to another site and then came back to drivers... still logged in.
even closed safari and reloaded, still ok... this is a mystery, I wish it would stop working for me then I'd have something to fix

Re: Forum upgrade
If it helps, the only thing I noticed was when logging in the first time (after clearing all cookies and restarting FF12) is that you see '60' in the session time. Ticking the box below doesn't change the figure but returns a password error at which point the number now changes and without doing anything other than clicking 'log in' again it goes in - but drops out on going elsewhere.

which login method are you using, the front page or the one on the menu?
Just testing cookie config... altered the default from 60 to 120
Also tried logging off and on from different menus, all seem to work on FF on the Mac
